Not unless they teach upper division college mathematics to 14 year olds in Canada. |

in 11th and 12th grade we were doing stuff like that..,. not in canada, but through the IB program... |

That's cool because I didn't know IB offered Linear Algebra, where I went they didn't offer it but you could take it dual credit at the university if you already had a year of calculus and you wanted more math.
My main point though was that linear algebra is not 9th/10th grade mathematics. |

i think people are confusing what the OP posted with things like factoring x^2 - 9 |

| The real question is...What is the point of all this nonsense number manipulation? |

Power!
It isn't nonsense actually, and serves all sorts of purposes, but you don't learn that until you've taken more math that 99% of the population can stomach. |

I took up to Calculus, including Survey of Calc, and Statistics. Even the professor's kept telling us this is useless, lol. I had no interest to take more, nor did the major require it. |

It is useless for most people. I'm just barely at the point where I'm using all of the math that I learned on problems and wishing I had payed more attention.
But it isn't too useless considering computational theory arose from mathematical study so without it we wouldn't have the internets. |

One of my good friends is an EE working in Atlanta, and he never does anymore math. They let CAD do it all. If they had to actually work a problem out, they would need help, lol. |

Like I said most people won't need it, but if you're going into a theoretical field it helps solve new problems. |
