no - while attaining my 3 university degrees I didn't have the opportunity to learn a language no one outside of eastern europe gives a about. I chose to focus my learning on relevant material. |
who the wastes thier time earning getting 3 university degrees? that is ing dumb!
Dude the only people i know who have 3 university degrees are
1 people who cant study something useful
2 people who suck at each subject and so must switch
3 people who have massively rich parents and have no need to care about what they do.
because i will say no average person has the time or money to earn 3 degrees. |

If everyone knows the navy is strong then everyone knows that punching holes in it is a priority ... or simply engaging the US millitary in another manner. |
sadly the US has more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world combined.
i think russia has 1 and the france 3 and the UK 2 the US 12 |

thanks GHB.
I'm sure High School or trade school was sufficient for your trade of choice, however, for people who want to succeed in life advanced degrees are the norm. A bachelors degree today is what a high school diploma was a few decades ago. |

Brooklyn college offers courses in creole, hebrew, and latin....so are they relevant languages on a global scale? interesting, perhaps.....relevant, not so much.
measuring relevancy by a college catologue is stupid. |
I agree on that, but I would hardly call irrelevant a language spoken by more than 200 million native speakers and a language of a country that is both a member of G8 and has the second largest military in the world. |

none of that makes it anymore relevant outside of eastern europe. If you look back to my post on page 1 I said no one outside of eastern europe gives a about russian. That is a solid statement of fact. On a world scale, russian is about as important as portuguese. |

So what other language is relevant on a world scale except for english then? They are all more or less localized. Russian is one of six official UN languages, and is also sixth most spoken in the world.
It all ultimately depends on who you're dealing with. But you can't say it's irrelevant. |

sure i can, and i did.
all joking aside, you have a point about localized relevance. With that said, given the context of my initial comment to a response that my education isn't sufficient to understand russian, my response that Russian is irrelevant was entirely appropriate. |

Otec ... you killed the thread. Sorry bud, but you just spin it like this so that they even on the entire Slavic culture. And I dont like that. Dont try to help them prove the Russian stereotypes. Personal attacks mean more personal attacks in response. |

whoa....noone on the slavic or russian culture. I love russians, especially russian women. I was responding to a personal attack, and it wasn't really demeaning to russians. The statement was simply a statement of fact that russian isn't an important language outside of eastern europe, thus, it is irrelevant for most people, especially people in my position.
i do agree, however, that the thread is dead. |
