Anyone use them?

I'm thinking about getting an FM transmitter but I'm kinda iffy about it. Do they work?

There's a wide range of them out there...anyone know the better models?

Apparently they drain your ipods battery really fast.

Most connect to the cigarette lighter, and in the case that its not connecting to the data port on the Ipod (thus usually recharging it) it would just connect to the headphone adaptor (uses same amount as headphones would).

I don't know which ones are good and which ones are bad but I know their are definitely ones that are a pain because after a way the transmitter starts to crap out.
If your ok with technical stuff you can easily buy a new head unit that has aux input and install it yourself.

I have the same one. Works pretty well, but u need to jack the volume up. It will transmit on the entire fm band which makes it easy finding clear channels.

my iPod plugs right into my head unit (alpine cda 9857), and works very well

I want a new head unit that has a USB jack and will play tunes off my flash drive. I'm done with bulky CD's in my car. The Ipod or mp3 player input is the next best thing.

Yes they do work quite well, if you don't buy an El-Cheapo one. I have a Belkin one and it works well. Actually I wanted to get the exact same one as the one Xanax posted but my girlfriend got me another one instead. One thing though, in order to get the clearest signal, you might have to remove your car antenna.

Definitely get one that plugs into the cigarette lighter/power adapter in your car. Battery operated transmitters usually aren't powerful enough.

Pioneer and the new Alpine units have this. The Alpine ones that do it are expensive compared to the Pioneer's offerings with USB. Plus the Pioneer units don't limit you as much to JUST USB or JUST cds.
