Cuba is free to do business with whomever they want except the US and vica versa. and they do.
we supply medical and food stuffs through charitable organizations and monitored free trade. other than that US companies are not allowed to do any other business.
the reason they're so behind the world is 1) their form of government (old school Marxist communism. hardly anything like China's) 2) up until the fall of the Soviet Union their economy was almost entirely subsidized directly by Moscow. no Soviet Union, no 90% of the economy. simple.
communism sucks. communism in this hemisphere sucks huge donkey balls. |
While I don't disagree on the communist points, that is still no reason to single-handedly a country in the ass with no lube. They have done nothing wrong in 40yrs. We need to get the stick out of our ass' and just lift the embargo and blockade. |

Nothing you said justifies a US embargo. There's something call "self-determination" embodied in the UN Charter, which all nations have a right to, including Cuba. Embargos should be reserved for countries which threaten others directly and also countries which are engaged in genocide. Yea, Cuba's economy is marxist, WTF is it to you? That's not a reason to them over. PERIOD. |

why do you say that? Cuba can still do business with the rest of the world and guess what... they do!!
Are you implying that if you don't do business with the USA, you're doomed forever?
IMO, it has to do with their government, more than the embargo... the official motto is that they are the best country in the world bar none, some people over there do believe it, which makes it worse because there's no need for real improvements.
Bacaradi was originally from Cuba, the Bacardi family left Cuba, so Havana Club Rum has the same recipe and officially replaced it... or so what they said at the Havana Club factory in Havana (i was there in 2006). |

I by no means think that the US is the only way to success. We single-handedly ed them because we created a situation where they were too reliant on a single source and when that ended it went to really fast.
And of course it has to do with their government, but that is not harming us. So why the are we meddling in this? |
