Beatport & VAT

Do all of you have to pay VAT now over the tracks bought on Beatport?

Because I filled in the inquiry they sent out a couple of weeks ago and now I have to start paying VAT. I was wondering if everybody is experiencing this, or if it's my fault for having to pay VAT now.

The problem is I said I deduct VAT where possible in my company administration. I did this because I had the future in mind. I was planning on doing so. Unfortunately it seems I'm not allowed to do so due to the lack of information on their invoices. Furthermore it's a lot of work to get all the VAT back even though it's legally my right as a company. This is because Beatport is a company located outside the European Union...

So, does Beatport now calculate VAT over your cart content or doesn't it?

check the beatport tax thread in music discussion. afaik there's not much info why they are adding the vat and what it's based on though.

i switched from beatport to djdownload because of this. if something is available only at beatport, i might consider buying it, if i really want it, other than that the ******s have lost my business.

I've just looked at my invoices and they all show tax at $0.00

Does that mean they are already including the tax in the purchase price. I'm not sure but I don't think that is correct (legal) invoicing procedure.

It should be calculated afterwards:

code:
CHARGES Sub Total €17.42 WAV Handling €0.00 Total Tax (State, City, Value-Added) €2.61 Credit -€0.00 TOTAL €20.03

The 9th of September was the first time I had to pay tax. I'm a beatport customer for about 2 years now and never had to pay taxes before I filled in the inquiry.

the needle drop preview player is the best thing IMO. their selection isn't as good as beatport's (naturally), but still good IMO. and most importantly, it's cheaper than beatport!

i cant see how thet can add on extra billing without corect notice first unless you agreed to it someware along the line. but in my mind they obviosly taken a brave step if they have. because there is no way they can charge you for items once then again(in hell)unless they have found a loop hole?

or thoe havent read the invoice again there is such a thing as (value add'ed tax) witch by the looks of things is the reason why the extra charge is in place. but diffrant country diffrant rules so?

It is VAT. But it doesn't make any sense at all. There are so many rules to consider.

1. If I (my company) deliver(s) a product I can calculate 0% VAT because USA is outside the European Union. From what I know it's the same the other way around (not sure though). So they could just calculate 0% tax in my case. As far as I know, this goes for both companies and regular consumers. At least it does when I would deliver a product to the USA.

2. Somehow I'm obligated to pay the VAT. If I do want my paid VAT back I probably have to get some form from the IRS to do so (Internal Revenue Service - The USA Tax office). Way too much hassle for something that could have been so simple. I don't like it one bit.

3. IF I want to get that VAT money back, according to dutch law I can't because the Beatport invoices miss vital information such as the company adress, their company ID number by which they are registered in the USA, their tax number and calculated VAT percentages.

All of these are missing which forces me to pay the VAT and I have no way to recoup it as that would be illegal in my country. I never had any complaints really, but somehow, somewhere, some really incompetent people have set up their invoice system.

They can just change their prices, virtually anyone can. They did change their prices in the past as well. About 18 months ago or so I think it was. Of course they won't charge for the already bought products. That's impossible.

yes your right on the money but this still does not change the point of any company be it corprate or independent must show all charges of any kind be it 10p or 100 pound. Now they do resirve the right to up or lower prices/charges at any time for sure. However this must be refletid some were either in the price or any other suplements you want or need. This must also be true for any charges either add'ed or shown for such things like delivery, vat. A charge cannot be stuck on at the end because they think it's nessery or they were incovenanced by your order. If on the date of purchess there prices were set at one rate what ever it was then that's what you shoud pay if they have in the meen time up there prices and try and charge you the diffrance then it's tuff .

Beatport also has an office based in Berlin. That's why they are billing all their european customers with 15% German VAT.

Thank you, I'm def gonna send them an angry email.

Strangest thing is. I believe the normal German VAT is 20%?
