1440x900 is native for 17" widescreen, as 1280x1024 is for 4:3 17" |
Na he's right, that's crappy.
My 17" Widescreen runs 1920x1200. That's better than 1080p right there. Dell XPS ftw :D |

my 5 y/o laptop has 1400x1050 on a 14"
I'm considering the new macbook as a replacement. Always wanted to try a mac. |

My mediocre laptop knowledge is apparent.
Bit annoying that laptop TFTs can reach higher resolutions than identically sized desktop TFTs :(
That said, I certainly wouldn't want 1680x1050 on a 15" widescreen, that res is perfect for my monitor which is 50% larger in size. |

By brother told me about this computer yesterday, and it seems to suit all my needs... however, as bizarre as it may sound, it's too expensive here in Brazil, and it costs almost as much as an ordinary laptop.
Still, I'm going to look more into it :) |

i wish someone didn't tell me specifically to buy one. issues with the laptop itself started like 6months into having the damn thing and now it works but if one day it exploded i really wouldn't be surprised. |

+1 I can't stress this enough.

Yeah but only barely. Literally 120 lines. That is nothing. If it was 500 lines yeah that would be better, otherwise it is basically negligible.

FreeDos.. wow I can ONLY run vista on my laptops until I find a hack around it.. well as the primary OS anyway... suprised to find the FreeDos website http://www.freedos.org/
Here is my take.. 6 cell battery life ain't all that long.. however places like future shop. You have http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...ogon=&langid=EN
a 500$ laptop - and cad is way lower than the USD right now so it almost pays to ship. Dending on VAT/ import fees etc.. in your locality.
850$ is quite a bit... but it depends what you are using it for.. I pretty much burned 2.5K on my laptop - even though I had one that was basically the same but with 0.2ghz less processing power and a downgraded os version, and absence of a tv tuner card. The basic premise is that it depends what you are using it for. The next computer i get will be an octo core most likely or a 16 or 32 cpu core. You should be looking at getting a quad core if you can find one for a budget price. but that computer is fine for most things.
My brother got a really nice computer for far less than myself with a blueray drive in it and 64 bit technology. What you are using it for is very important. |
Acutally, $1000USD is a good amount to spend. It is neither ridiculous, nor dirt cheap. You get a lot of value for your money.

Stop spending $100 on LCD panels, and you will get better resolutions. ;)

If you touch type, avoid it like the plague. It is too small to type on. Carpel tunnel ftmfl.

Yeah, acer is total .
Brands to consider:
Compaq/HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Asus, MSI, Dell (but only as long as you don't buy the cheapest you can afford), Fujitsu, and Samsung. Avoid all other brands.
Also, if you are ok with vista, you can get Ultimate for free from a torrent site. It will be fully activated, and it ultimate (search 30 in 1 vista ultimate.) ;) As long as you don't plan on playing games, it is great.
Sushi, LOL owned. If you don't play games, run old hardware and software, it is fine. |

| Oh also, the specs on that aren't bad, but you said you will be doing AutoCAD. I would avoid that low end video card. |

That is the correct term for typing by touch. As in you don't look at the keyboard to type. :) |

Oh, didn't know that :)
And, yeah, that's how I type. I should look for bigger keyboards, then? |
