Is it just me.. or has the electronica genre blown up this year?

I mean its great. The fact that the music we all enjoy on this website is being appreciated by others who have finally jumped ship(me from hip-hop). But i cant help to see how many fakers there are that claim to like trance and house, when a year ago they said quote on quote "techno is gay" (techno in noob talk meaning electronica in most cases)

Im from LA and have seen hundreds of people go to Monster Massive, EDC, LoveFest and so on, but i cant help to see how many fake listeners there are of the electronica genre just going to these events and vanguard and avalon JUST TO BE SEEN AT AN EVENT

HELL YEAH MONSTER MASSIVE WAS SICK!!! posted all over their myspace the next day .. im not gonna make a thread just to hate, but i just wanted to get a view from other people.

Is this ONLY bothering me, or are others with me on this case?:conf:

+1 but that is life though man nothing you or I can do to stop this bs. I mean I for one witness this all the time, everyone is my city thinks raving is the new cool thing to do, it saddens me especially to the people that go that you really never EVER wanna see go go. yuccccckkk

yea i agree with you too.. i keep promising myself i wont be seen with at monster massive or EDC anymore because i cant associate with freaking losers that wear a load of candy and trick themselves out with their clothing and then turn around the next day an only listen to mainstream songs like "put your hands up for detroit" and "around the world" and say OMG this is the best sonnng eveeer

fuk off you yanks :gsmile:

I'd love to see better looking people @ EDM events/venues. I'm @ Vanguard almost every Sat however I took a lil break last Sat and went to Opera...eye candy all over the place. Kinda pleasant

maybe you should stay home more often:wtf:

I think clubbing in LA has slowed a bit this year, its really the rave scene that has been booming.

People go to Monster Massive because it is a highly promoted event. IMHO, massives are the worst part of EDM. Kids OD, gangters beat up each other, girls get raped, people get stabbed, and the media rips another whole in the fabric of our culture.

The punters @ Monster Massive are just regular ole folk, and not your real EDM fanatics. If you haven't seen all those djs in clubs and raves before a massive, you aren't a true EDM fan, IMHO. We recently had Love Fest in SF, with the after party to boot. I didn't bother with the after party, since I have already seen every dj in all the rooms in club or raves before. It is a treat to have a huge party, and it is a logistics nightmare for the promoters!

One thing I would like to introduce you to is the concept of P.L.U.R. I know it is corny and cliche but it is a cornerstone of EDM. If you honestly uphold P.L.U.R., then it wouldn't bother you how many people like EDM, who's posing, and who's faking. You would simply be happy that they are sharing the experience of EDM with you, regardless of their intentions. I've been raving/clubbing/djing for 12 years, and it is easy to be jaded. I have to constantly reinvent my appreciation for EDM, from which clubs I frequent, to whom a talk with, to who I listen to. If you really appreciate a culture for all that it is, then you must embrace it in its entirety. "Skrew" is as much hip hop as "gabber" is EDM, even though I can't stand either genre.

I always find it funny that "if you like EDM you gotta be gay" stereotype never dies out! ing Americans and our obsession with homophobia! It has nothing to do with being gay (ok some songs are way faye) and everything to do with being you being yourself and not caring what people think of you. Hmmm, if you think about it, this is a LGBT trademark, so I guess I CAN see the connection!

OP your wrong, most people don't go there to be there. They go to DROP PILLS or do other drugs, but mostly to drop x.

i agree to a certain extent. its good to have a "good looking" crowd, but if they're douche bags and/or bitches, than they can go themselves. I'd take an "ugly" crowd over them any night.

It seems that indie rock fans and related genres are listening to electronic dance music. WTF? I thought these were the same people who HATED disco, and electronic music because it was fake, and not real like rock music. That's what pisses me off the most. They're listening to that stuff to be ironic, this is what my gut tells me. Either that or they can tell their friends they listen to obscure music, maybe it's both. Those bastards! Damn you hipsters! DAMN YOU TO HELL.

For the rest of the world: I say who cares. It exposes people to quality dance music that is not readily available unless you go on the internets. It exposes people to dance music that's not daft punk, basshunter, madonna, justice, or sandstorm because there's tons of music out there that needs to be heard!

teknotexan I like what you said about PLUR. Theres alot of us who are jaded towards it now that were older, but some that still believe in it without soundin corny.

People come and go in this scene. Not everyone stays. Every year there is a new generation of listeners, Whether they come to roll, hear the music, kick it with their friends, whatever. Some may think our music is gay, but then there are some who come and begin to understand the beauty EDM.

Their coming to check out the scene, our scene, our music. So they may be pretenders now, but hopefully they get exposure to some good shows, or their friends take them to some good venues or events to really get in the real with EDM.

Might not be the people you wanna see, or some douchbag who has a orange tan and looks like walking hi-c... Maybe they are looking for a place to fit in too.

Honestly, I havent been to a REAL massive in a really, really long time... I think those days are really over for us...

Thank you Rukes. lol.

Honestly, get over it. It happens when 30,000 people get together for anything. I got to massives to hear sets I don't hear in the clubs of DJs I like. It has little to do with a theme or any screwed up drugs or kids. I go for the music whether its a club or a massive. Screw whoever does anything otherwise, you should be able to enjoy yourself clean and enjoy the music clean. If you can't, there's another problem.

Anyways, crowd mentality is just that. If you want to change the stereotyping of the genre, then we all have to change the media landscape of the US. Support your locals, support upstart EDM radio and net broadcasting, and show that it matters to you more than just a DJ name. That's what I'm trying to do here in SD right now, and that's why most of the people I come in contact with in this scene like me and what I stand for and who I'm going about my business.
