I like the look of presonus firestudio (NOT the project version as much), but I'm mostly going on reputation. I know echo make OK stuff since I have an indigo for DJing.
Go with what you can afford I guess. Most decent midi keyboards go over USB not midi plugs these days, so you don't neccesarily need a midi interface built into your audio interface. Better off getting them seperately if you find an audio interface you like;) |

Thanks man! I was looking at the "Oxygen 61" which seems to have a MIDI and USB interface. All that I will need is a simple USB to USB cable if I'm not looking to go through MIDI? Thanks again for the reply :) |

Right, seeing as I don't wish to build my own PC, what are your opinions on the above? It looks fine to me, however, I see nothing to do with a soundcard here. If I want my computer to support Firewire and for it to run efficiently, will this ready built one make do? Or will I have to buy a soundcard separately?
Thanks a bunch in advance! :p |

Infact, this looks a lot better... I was thinking that I may not need firewire, as this has USB 2.0 and besides, if I need an Audio Interface for recording 1 guitar, vocals and my monitors, do I really need Firewire?
Thanks! :D |

If you don't need USB for any other demanding application than audio you should be fine. If you have an external harddriver for instance I'd recommend you to go get Firewire.
USB shares bandwidth across all connected devices so you need to be sure you have the neccessary bandwidth for audio available at all times. Otherwise go with Firewire. Full bandwidth per connection/cable unless you daisy chain something :). |

Right, I've decided on my computer. Now it's Audio Interface time :D Seeing as the computer is already built, I don't wanna put Firewire ports in, so I'm probably going with USB 2.0. Just for future reference though, will I be able to add a Firewire port later on? Or will this be a problem if the computer doesn't have a good Firewire chipset (Is the chipset in the computer or the AI :conf: )?
Anyway, I was looking at a M audio Fast Track Ultra: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_...TrackUltra.html
I will only be recording 1 guitar and possibly vocals in the future, and of course I'll have my monitors plugged into this. Should this be a problem when running on a system with the following specs:
Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600 (2.40GHz, 1066MHz, 8MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1
3072MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024 + 2x512]
320GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst
Thanks in advance! |

Well as everyone has told you, a mixer is not essential but your audio interface must have enought ins/outs with some to spare.
however there is more to consider when purchasing the right interface
for your setup. Quality VS functionality.
buying Studio hardware?

Hmmm... no not advertising just trying to help.
I write tutorials and I'm always ready to share my knowledge and learn myself.
I know how hard it is to learn the tricks of the trade, so i guess i see how i may have come across that way. enthusiastic thats all
Oh and by the way...
Have you heard Omnisphere?
I reckon if you played with it for only half and hour you'd beg borrow and steal to get it.
some ppl say it's only great for atmospheric sounds but they either don't know much about synthesis or haven't used it all.

why don't you check out

these cards are sic, I use one now after upgrading from M-audio gear, the sound is great!
plus it has a good range of in/outs.
It depends how much you wanna spend but think of it this way, you'll never need to replace it!
