Is anyone else amazed by the consistently good sets coming from this podcast every week? It's got great variety (everything from disco, to dubstep, to minimal, to chicago house), and it really opens your eyes to DJs/artists who are under the radar.
Sets by Derrick Carter, Lee Jones, and Simbad are all still available for download, and they're all really good IMO.
Keep doing what you're doing RA!

Just checked out the Derrick Carter set. Amazing! I think he's actually gotten funkier than when I saw him a few years back, which for me is perfect. :D
Whichever tune he plays at around 30 minute mark... so so good, just lifted my mood about 3 notches for today.
Is there any way to get ahold of the archived sets? There are some really interesting looking sets in there, by names that I always thought were totally obscure like Four Tet and Future Loop Foundation... |

| I wasn't feeling the derrick carter one. Too clangy for me....love the stimming, lee jones and simbad ones. there are a few from last year that I play regularly as well. It's such a good idea for a podcast and I'm glad it got enough traction to start attracting some big names like Hawtin, Carter, etc. |

Graham, where in the Lee Jones set was that track you got an ID on?
I just noticed my itunes is downloading RA 125 - MOVE D! This will be along the lines of the deep tech ones out lately. Can't wait! |

I want to toss in my vote for the Laurent Garnier podcast as well (from back in June). What's really interesting about him is that, like a lot of DJs, he's obviously updated his sound after 15 years or so, but you can still hear the similarities and it's still very distinctively his sound.
With a lot of veteran DJs, the only real commonality between the old and new material is that it all fits into roughly the same genre. With Laurent, I'm not even sure that there is a specific genre, but there remains this element that's just so singularly twisted and weird (though not in a "WTF" way, more of a "hmmm" way, if that makes any sense).
Listen to a recent mix like the podcast along with one of his Essential Mixes from, say, 1994, and you'll see what I mean. He used to play a lot "harder" and it's intriguing to see how he's applied the same style to a (relatively speaking) minimal, techy set. I'm just trying to figure out if this is actually what he plays now, or if he put together this style of set specially for RA. |
