Go to any of those other cities and there a multiple venues that aren't holes.

true, but the lizard lounge and its owners have been supporting edm and its culture since the 80s. its the only big venue in dallas that can always do edm shows and make money (hopefully) with out getting ghetto at the same time. most big nice venues (purgatory, karma, etc.) in dallas go to e after the hip hop crowd finds out about them.

why? do you take note of what goes on there? the people into the scene i hear aren't that many but they do bring in a decent array of djs. ferry svd markus schulz stoneface & terminal, kyau & albert and matt darey are some i can think off just off the top of my head who've spun there relatively recently.

as for denver i made an effort to go to the church on a wednesday or maybe it was thursday night back in march and i was impressed with not only the club but the scene. young people though

ah ha, well you aren't going to get residencies but the scene is thriving. not sure if top 10 in the US but nowhere near say a portland oregon or other mid-sized / big-us cities. in portland we got carl cox like once then the next year we had oakenfold and that was our quota for the year...one dj

So what I gather so far is that most us cities, get about 1-2 big names a year, or if there is more theres no real frequency of acts.

So im guessing the better cities for consistent weekly edm that equates to headlining talent would be.

Los Angeles, San Francisco, NYC, San Diego?, Chicago, Washington DC, Miami, Atlanta, Austin, and Seattle....

Thats what Ive figured out so far. I could be wrong, but it seems that the top 7 on that list have a market big enough to pull in headliners on weekends. Am I correct?

discuss.

just off the top of my head in dallas....

we've got moby, james zabiela, dirty south, bassnectar, sasha, steve lawler, dj three, dj dan, teifschwarz, audiofly, chris lawrence, sharam, opencloud, roy jones jr, donald glaude, Marcus Schossow, noel sanger, planet of the drums, ATB, crystal method, 4 strings, and a beatport party all lined up. i know its no LA or NYC for sure lolol but we do get a lot more than 1 or 2 headliners a year.

houston and austin also gets a good number of out of town talent roll through.

I went to a rave in Dallas once.

At the outdoor place. Life or something? There was a bounce house and some bungee cord thing where people would bounce up and down doing flips in the air.

i've heard things about atlanta...although are there big clubs that don't cater to hip hop there? i went to hear tiesto spin in atlanta two years ago and the event was at the tabernacle which isn't exactly a club. big crowd though.
