Snow falls in southern Ontario
It wasn't enough to get people revving up the snow-blower, but it certainly caused a scene.
Wet flurries fell through the overnight hours in several parts of southern Ontario, leaving a fresh layer of snow on the ground, on rooftops and vehicles. In most cases it was only a light dusting, but it was still enough to cause a scene. For those who were out early this morning, the roads were reported to be slick north of Toronto.
“Callers to our Stormline were reporting everything from whiteout conditions to small ice pellets,” says Brian Dillon, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Thursday, stating that wet flurries were possible east of Lake Huron to Waterloo and north to Barrie. Still, snowflakes were also falling as far south as Markham, just east of Toronto. Snowshowers were reported at the city's Buttonville Airport.
Bands of precipitation are still rolling in off Georgian Bay and Lake Huron, but most communities have now transitioned over to rain. Conditions were cool across the southern part of Ontario Friday morning, with temperatures near the freezing mark and wind chills making it feel into the minus single digits.
This early taste of winter came on the heels of a stormy day across Ontario on Wednesday. Now, as we look towards the weekend, people in the southern part of the province can expect another storm to move in.
“A Colorado low will sweep across southern Ontario Saturday night,” explains Dillon. “This will mainly be a rain event, but it will make for a soggy Sunday.”

The rain that came yesterday needed some scraping on my windshield last night before I left for the pub, so I knew something was coming.
This morning there was a light dusting. |
