There are sites where you have to write an essay to join. Those sites are filled with intelligent members who stay for the long-term.
Alts are a problem, and I am starting to think that we should at least have people make threads in an introduction forum, or something similar. A new forum is probably needed or a lockdown on this one. As long as this one isn't made private, I guess it's cool.
We need more mods, seriously. Is the problem with the clutter it would cause to have so many moderators atop the 1st page? Then just have a link saying (More...) or something. Or get enough people to cover day crew and night crew.
When people make so many alts and post so many threads, people read the forum less. When people read the forum less, it begins to wane in popularity. When it wanes in popularity, it begins to die. When it dies, you will have no one to blame but yourself.
What were you doing when the alts came to kill the COR? |

Well, I get what you're saying, but you have to admit that one of the things that make the COR what it is, is the relaxed style of moderation here. I think over moderating a forum like this would kill what makes it special, way more than a few annoying alts do.
Imagine a COR where everyone is relatively polite, and stays on topic in every thread. The truly awesome threads would never even come to be!
And the regular users make just as many threads as the alts do anyway :p |

Not to insult, because you do make a good point, but you aren't disagreeing with me at all. I'm not suggesting what you think I am.
I think it would be beneficial to have a bigger, more watchful group of moderators around because they would actually improve the laid back environment by immediately bouncing out the alts and troublemakers before most of us could notice. They would be like silent bouncers who don't bother the regulars because they know the regulars are cool, but won't hesitate to immediately take out a new guy who wants to start some . Make sense? They wouldn't be more aggressive with the regulars (because who would want that?), and they would make sure to keep the posters at bay.
Honestly, I believe that we all enjoy a little drama every now and then, a little silliness too, but when it gets excessive due to lack of moderation, then people start to get pissed off. |

I wasn't trying to disagree with you, just wanted to raise some points.
I totally agree that the COR (or TA as a whole) could use more moderators. This, as far as I know, has been an issue for quite a long time. Let's face it - TA one big-ass forum. (inb4xkcdcomic)
What you seem to be suggesting though, appears to be skewed moderating (regulars get left alone to do as they always do, but n00bs wouldn't be allowed to be 'random' and offensive like everyone else). Very bad idea, or at the very least, very difficult to... well... moderate, alts or not. |
