The last scene we sort of felt the way Tony feels every day of his life. Every time that door opened, Tony would look and see if he's about to get shot; and the viewer got to feel that with him. Everyone expected someone to walk into the diner and shoot the whole family. That fear is something Tony has to live with everyday, and the viewers got to experience just 5 minutes of that fear/anticipation.
