My favourites, in no particular order...
>> Hard (Acid) Trance and some trancey NU-NRG (Choci, Lab 4, "Captain Tinrib - Blue Oyster" style not Scot Project style)
>> Progressive Trance (Max Graham style)
>> Tech-Trance and some Techno (I like Techy Trance and Trancey Techno but Hard Techno is usually a bit much for me) (Picotto, Marco V...)
>> Hard Goa/Psy Trance (The Delta, Skazi, Dark Soho...)
and of course Freeform/Trancecore, which is basically Hardcore Trance...

I loved uplifting/melodic trance for 2 years. Now they just sound the same to me. :( I am sure a lot of you trance addicts who have listened to trance for this long would agree with me. Progressive takes the music into the next level. |
Agreed... I used to love Epic/Uplifting, but now most of it sounds so cheesy and similar to me... What I really hate are typical epic style synths and melodies. As long as they use unique synths, sounds and melodies then I'm OK with it, but as soon as I hear that typical synth sound or a typical style melody I roll my eyes and turn it off...

Damn, you know how many people I talk to who are like "Oh yeah, I used to listen to trance and now I'm into (pick one: techno, dnb, progressive, football)"? That's bad. That's what KILLS a genre. I'm not sure who to blame - the producers for doing the same things the same way over and over or the whole phenomenon of sub-genre hairsplitting that perhaps encourages these formulas.
Something has to be done, and I'm not sure what. |

Doubly agreed.
I'd have to go for:
1. (4) progressive trance (christopher lawrence, paul oakenfold, D:Fuse)
2. (3) basic trance (paul van dyk, John '00' flemming, Kimball Collins)
3. (10) chill trance (chicane, ayla...)
4. (1) uplifting trance (dj tiesto, ferry corsten, Johan Gielen)
5. (5) progressive house/trance (steve lawler, digweed, basic global underground stuff)
I suppose Marco V would fit into hard trance, but I don't like any other 'hard trance' artists. Hmm. |

| i like the way that pvd spins and produces even though sometimes they are quite different...when he spins its basically dance tracks not really uplifting but his other productions are pretty trancey to me...so i would have to say "basic trance" |

| My all time favourite is uplifting trance. But I also like goa trance, progressive trance, progressive house/trance (GU stuff) and basic trance about the same. I can't list those sub-genres in order...they're all great! |

| Moley |
| uplifting trance, although i'd dispute strongly that tiesto lies in that category |
|

| Kirby |
1. (2)
2. (1)
somewhere in the middle: jungle and house (which I don't really like to just listen to on my CD player often, but I can dance to it for hours somehow)...
Last: chill ANYTHING...for some reason, I just really dislike that type of music. At least, in the world of electronic music. Doesn't do it for me... |
