Popularity contests don't mean as much to dj's that care more about putting out good music and pushing the scene forward. It's not always about the money either.
Most of the time the top tracks on beatport are cheesy garbage anyway :whip: :whip: :whip: |

to be fair, his productions don't all sound the same. A lot of his BIG, more well known ones do. Listen to his discography on beatport though. A lot of what he put out like 2 years ago was very sick, very unique sounding stuff. He still puts out unique sounding tracks. What I think got him into a bit of a hole, was the fact that tracks of his with a certain sound blew up in a huge way. So people who sought him out for remixes or original productions were specifically looking for tracks that sounded like "Not Exactly" or "Faxing Berlin". Listen to his electro house stuff though...I'm not a big electro guy personally, but compared to a lot of what comes out of that genre, his stuff is nasty. |

Deadmau5 is a great producer and a great DJ. I had a load of fun when I saw him in August, and the fact all his songs are somewhat similar and he only plays his own music was fine by me, because his mixing and energy was insane.
Calderone is a great DJ even though I only saw him once this year I still think there's bound to be 50 better DJs.
But f*ck that, what I wanna know why are you criticizing this list so much, what's so seriously wrong with the top 10? I personally can't stand David Guetta but hes gotta have a huge following for a reason so I guess he deserves his spot. |

I agree man. Its hilarious to see people freak out over this list every year like it means something. Its a ing popularity contest, that is all. People go nuts because djs they don't like placed higher than ones they do. Just because someone is more popular, doesn't mean they are officially a better dj. |

right. His rating doesn't mean he is the 5th sickest, most underground, most technical dj on the planet. It just means means his music hit a lot of people this year.
He has a top 5 track on Z100 right now for Christ's sake. That doesn't make me want to go see him at Pacha next month. But it definitely = him getting a top 10 placing in this poll. |

And the best part is that these same people on here, who like more underground DJs, if that DJ got #1 they would instantly stop liking them just because of the popularity thing. Its hilarious. |

agreed, i don't know whats the deal with this forum and bashing deadmau5 but honestly he's been the most sucessful edm producer this year by a land slide. his tracks sound great too in terms of mixing, synthesis, and mastering, the whole nine yards. guys got talent, and it's interesting because no one got so big so fast in this industry ever, so it's now the 'in' thing to do to bash him.
give him credit when it's due, he started a movement. james holden did the same thing in 2002-03. |
