most DJs iv met who are starting out spend their first 10 years working 3 jobs a day to make ends meet. it's also very hard nowadays to become a big DJ if u dont have anything to offer in terms of productions.

if u were gonna become a big DJ ud have had to start dj-ing at clubs before u were 18. i'd say it takes about 10 years to get your name out.

That's bull. I don't think you have to have been a DJ before 18 in order to be recognized. And the 3 job thing, maybe, but I bet those people also had a vinyl-buying addiction. But I agree that in order to be a successful DJ nowadays you NEED to produce your own music, it's the ultimate way to contribute to the industry and it will make you stand apart from others.

Not that long. About 3-4 years but even then you're still pretty damn wet behind the ears.

But yeah you're pretty much right it takes quite awhile.

You guys are spitting bull out of your mouth. I never had any music theory classes or knowledge and already have several tracks of good quality out as well as the fact having the ability to play in clubs.

In the end its just like anything in life. You get what you put into it. I put every waking second of my life into music and as return I am being rewarded for my dedication and hard work.

The people saying it takes ten years is retarded. Look at SvD. 4 years and he is arguably one of the top producers and djs in the world.

Stop making excuses for your stalled development.

Nice assumptions. If you really think SvD never touched a turntable or production equipment until 4 years ago then you're a retard.

I love downtown portland. I lived there the majority of my life but recently had to move to tigard (about 20 min away). Really good music scene, Its pretty good for EDM but we have alot of indie and other groups come to portland. Sasha and digweed came to portland last april and that was a wicked show, and AVB came as well but i missed that one. excellent restaurants, unfortunately i am 19 so i cant go to bars but we have some good ones, we have the highest micro brewery's per capita in the US. :). somewhat 420 friendly depending on which part of the city, but its still illegal so dont go lightin one up in front of a cop lol (if your into that). Northwest Portland is where its at. Besides some nice scenery, Everywhere else in Oregon is pretty much a miss though, we also have some pretty good mountains for skiing, boarding. i would recommend coming to visit.
