AVB's productions and sets have been lately.
That's not what almost got me thrown out of the music discussion forum last night. The fact that Tiesto hasn't committed suicide or overdosed yet is what pisses me off. How the is a dj, who hasn't produced since 2006, going to reach #2? This is the last time I'm voting in the Dj Mag. I feel like ta.com turned into another Florida in the 2004 elections.
How is mau5 under infected mushroom? Mau5 produced way more tracks than overrrated I.M....not to mention Deadmau5 has his own label. I don't see I.M.'s label anywhere.
David Guetta at #5 has got to be the biggest joke I've witnessed on this website. If anything, Ricardo Villalobos, who I've recently encountered, prodiced waaaaaaay better tracks and played a set in Mexico that could easily make Guetta fans think twice about voting for him.
UK's poll is a little surprising in my opinion as well, but looks 1,000,000 times better than USA's poll. |

Steve and I had a conversation about this the other day.....
I'm burned out as on EDM. I don't listen to half of the radio shows I use to, I don't get enthused to play myself anymore, search for tracks, etc. I use to skip work to listen to radio shows, jam out at my house, search for tracks, etc. The energy & the ride is not there for me right now. It seems like to me that the days of understanding what a DJ did are gone.
IMO, every DJ in their set or production right now is trying to one up the other with style points on how many effects, loops, and whatever else crap you can throw together in a track or set right now. I miss the days of it being about the experience & journey an entire set use to do to me. Now, it's just getting flat out boring. There aren't a whole lot of guys left IMO that still take you on that ride and focus on that ride, not the track of the moment.
I'll call it the Deadmau5 effect (even as much as I hate to give him credit, but he's the hot name at the moment). Sure, his style is unique, blah blah blah, but it seems to me that everyone is trying to one up a similar technique into their sets or productions, regardless of genre.
Curious to know everyone elses thoughts. |

i feel you on several points schwab. haven't really been into edm lately like i was in the past. i didn't even bring my turntables to dallas with me this year. i'm not going to even go into the things about the crowd itself and some of the dj's (some famous and some very much not famous) that have turned me off from the music. i still go to shows and have fun, but it's not really about the music anymore as much as it is just the friends that i have there.
my xm has been set to lucy (90's alternative rock) and 20 on 20 (yes, top 20) lately.
i'm sure it's just a cycle since i've gone through all sorts of phases musically over the years. we shall see what the future brings.
and, just to say, the polls are the polls. they show what people like. whether you think it's bull or not, it's what the majority say is good. the top dj on the list is the top dj. just because you like a sports team and they had the lower score when the game was over doesn't mean that they should have won. unless it's golf.

M.Schwab, Steve, and Dirk.
You three need to look into retirement already. My wife Nicole is freakin old as hell (what..47...gray hair now?) and she still listens to electronic music as if it were top 20, yet she still has time to bake crumpettes for the kids after school and cooks my dinner when I come home every night. :haha:
Eh..on the real:
I know what you mean Matt n' Dirk. After my huge loss this summer, I decided I'd slow it down on the gig-trotting and album collectin'. I buy albums here and there only if they grasp the music senses. I've podcasted Trance Around The World and on occasion I'll play it out when I'm in the studio and I need something to wake me up. Other than that, I'm not going crazy on the music as much. If you asked me, I've greatly laid off trance and have experimented other genres. I've always been a fan of Indie and Instrumental and even played drums for a band we started in early high school ("The Attached"...which my friend Jake Hall still plays the bass for and is supported by Lakewood Church's audio engineer and father of Jake, Reed Hall). Those particular albums and podcasts are the ones I, on a daily basis, listen to.
I still think that list is ghey...and Steve too. |

And how the is that much better?
My favorite DJs aren't even on the list. On a positive note I couldn't be more enthused about dedicating my life to electronic music than I am right now. |
