dont shoot me down please but i have read and read on the internet and want some opinions.

i am interested in learning to dj and am confused with all the diffrent options.

basicly i have a laptop which i can use and do use to store music (mp3s) this is where i would idealy like most of my music to be from. (altough i am willing to burn cds if that is a better option)
i wouldnt mind having controls like a conventional dj pitch/jog wheels etc for beatmatching (i know software can do that for you but would not mind learning).

i have looked at a few options and am struggling to decide how to go.

options
x2 cdj400`s + xone 42 mixer
x2 cdj400`s + xone 92 mixer (of course more expencive)
xone 4d mixer!

any more options would be a help (around a similer price or less) or info on the above..

cheers neal

For a first set-up I'd probably go for a cheaper mixer, unless you can actually afford the xone, which is one of the best mixers money can buy. You might find six months down the track that DJing is not your thing, and then you have wasted some serious coin.

Something like a Vestax from the PCV or VMC range would be good, or a Numark DXM (cheap, average sound quality, but very well built and durable).

The CDJ 400's would be a good first option I think.

How is it that in this thread:

You're asking whether the Urei is any good, and now you're actually recommending it to someone three days later, when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about?

I don't know about the Urei, it may be brilliant, but seriously...

Hey guys I'm also going to be looking to buy a pair of CD players in a couple of months and of course while my first choice are CDJ-800MK2, they are very expensive and the 400's are reasonably priced. How big is the difference exactly?

The 400s are actually quite close to the 800mk2s in price, their selling point is the MIDI capability.

I'll speak to the original poster's list of items. I just recently purchased a Xone:42, decided to spend the money after using a DJX700 for nearly 3 years. It was the best investment I ever made.

Not to mention I managed to resell the DJX700 for about $40 less than what I originally paid for it, lol

Sorry I realized I meant the 1000's not the 800's.

get the 1000's you wont regret it

You might want to consider the DJM 800. (this is coming from a Xone fanboy, who's buying a Xone 92 + CDJ 400s in christmas)

I'd get:

CDJ 800mk2s
DJM 800

You spend the money you save on the mixer for better CDJs.

Id recommend you get a cheap pair of decks to begin with mate, and also a cheap mixer. Cause it may turn into a bad investment if a few weeks down the line you realise that djing is not for you. Just because you love the music doesnt mean you will love djing. It will take money, patience, time and practice. If you are willing to do all that, then by all means go for it. For a beginner id recommend the behringer djx700 mixer. Basically the same as a djm, bar the sound quality of course, but basically the same features etc.
