I watched a bunch of clips from that "Armin Only" concert.
All that really seemed to be going on was him jumping up and down every couple minutes when there is a build up. No one was even dancing, they were just watching him, astounded, like it was the greastest thing they'd ever seen.
I really don't understand it, it looked like a pretty boring time to me.
Which came first, the weak fan or the weak dj? |

| Armin basically wwent from someone who could play a nice variety of sounds, both in his sets and radio shows to someone who was predictable, only touching labels he either has a financial interest in or from a very narrow branch of 'trance'. People don't realise that we don't hate because he's popular, but because he's not trying anymore. Same sorta path for most of the 'big name' trance DJs. Simply put, his music was good before Armada & the asot show got so big & has been spiralling ever since. |

That's irrelevant, you know personally why I haven't & trying to use that as an excuse to get one up on me just shows how low you'll go these days. Hearing his livesets and hearing 1000s of sets allows you to judge how good a DJ is, technically and tune selection wise. There's always going to be a bunch of peons at every concert who love what he's doing because either they think he's cute, they're DJ whores, or they're plain ignorant to the fact that the music is absolute dog awful. Nobody who supports tunes like filo & peri - the anthem, makes shivvers, luv you more & all the vocal tripe he's done lately can be considered good.
It actually has more reasons too. Years ago, the DJs had less places to play & you'd find them regularly in the UK but with the internet & more knowledge of people, there's new markets around, Australia, Asia, America, South America, the Middle East etc. A dj can now go around playing the same set of records for months on end and get away with it, it makes them lazy. When they were playing European clubs more often, they had to change things up a bit & show some creativity to keep people interested. In the UK for example, the music tastes have changed so much because people who enjoyed the fresh ideas of trance years ago are now fed up with it & have moved onwards to other styles of music to fill their need for fresh sounding and forward thinking music. ASOT does not do that. |

what a load of i seen the said dj play in sydney on a friday night for 8 hours and then him play in melbourne 2 nights later also for 8 hours and both sets were remarkably different.
I also strongly believe that one has to experience the party atmosphere and the djs to gauge what is happening. I can sit at home and download a million sets but will not have a full knowledge of whats going on until i actually see them live. One simply can not comprehend how a dj is reading a crowd and how he/she decides to change up the styles ect to suit the needs of the crowd. |

Enough to know that his sets are about as interesting as buying a water filter. Even his 9 hour Armin Only sets. |

A DJ is only as good as the material he has to work with and when the current 'state of trance' is as it is, then it's awful. There is good stuff out there that never gets a look in because it isn't made by a certain group of people, and when did armin last play something from Hybrid & a wide variety of artists & styles? |

Yeah well, don't worry Will. You're getting on a bit now mate, and you'll probably only remember stuff like that for maybe 2 years tops, before the dementia kicks in. :p |
