No, I passed Spanish.
And French. |

Oh, well then you realize you did imply that older people are smarter... Right?
You stated that Eddie is older, then you implied that older people are smarter. |

I know I know.
I put "should be" instead of an "is" like I intended to.
You got me bro.
You got me.
Your personality wins and I lose.
It's Techno Tuesday at a bar here.
Time to go. Blame it on the al-al-al-al-al coholllll. |

Aw, shucks! Don't really know what to say other than to compliment the compliment and it's a hell of a compliment, coming from you.

Eddie is a smart guy and I enjoy his posts for the most part. At the same time, he's an old and wise man - no offense Edward. As a result he should be smarter and more knowledgable about the world than any of us. Writing well helps, so of course he shines around these parts. |
In part, I agree with you. I should be smarter/wiser. Doesn't mean I think that I am. In fact, I'm sure most of you tend to be smarter than I am and are often wiser beyond your years. I've often found myself taken aback by how spot on a lot of people here are concerning a lot of subjects that I'd like to consider myself more knowledgeable in.

Just because someone is older doesn't mean they are wiser... |
You might be surprised and disappointed to find out just how correct this statement is. My girlfriend is my age and much smarter and wiser than I am and I have met some curiously ignorant people, many years my senior. |

You can tell a lot about someone by the way they handle adversity and debate directed toward them personally or otherwise. Some people choose to go head-first into assertions they are quite prepared to back up with all manner of rhetoric and dissertation. System-J and Eddie Zilker come to mind as two individuals with tremendous personality.
//Looney4Clooney, too. He's not afraid to tell someone he thinks they are outright wrong, at point-by-point length.
For contrasts to this, see people like Meat187 and igottaknow, who really cower from discussion just on the basis of half-baked notions that it somehow makes them appear as more intelligent than the personality they inadvertently seek to cultivate; which is a ridiculous possibility in itself, much more so in the context of who they indeed are. |
and then we have you. |

I think in terms of being able to logically argue an idea better than anybody else on this site, Lira takes the cake. This is especially impressive given English not being his native language. He also doesn't appear to try and give the impression of intelligence just by using words that appear to have been recently looked up in a thesaurus.
I like Eddie, and I like the way he posts. Hal is the same in terms of getting a genuine sense of understanding in what they're saying, and not one of the sort who types out long winded rhetoric with no real substance to back it up (i.e. nou, and L4C*)
System-J, while being an obviously clever and knowledgeable person, just comes off as a dick to me. It's not just when it's directed at me, but he has such an air of superiority and condescension with almost everyone he talks to, all of that intelligence and arguing skill gets lost in a sea of "that guy is a cunt."
*only on certain topics. While not as well-spoken or as eloquent, he's often able to back up his claims with a level of knowledge that's almost peerless, depending on the subject. |
