This is spot on.
Maybe not intentionally, but some people do come across as trying to be a little too cute with their writing. Writing well doesn't mean using words that most people have to look up over and over again to know what the you're talking about.
Some people seem to think otherwise by the way they post.
Again, maybe this isn't intentional - or maybe it is. I've always thought that to myself while reading some of the posts on here, though.
EDIT: I also wanted to add that I'm impressed on a daily basis for the amount of knowledge some of you guys have on such varying topics and issues. I usually don't hold "book smarts" in high regard because of how other things in life can mold and shape a person into being an intelligent and insightful individual, but I do respect it and even envy it a tiny bit.
That being said, I have plenty of years to live and books to read to help me catch up. |

To be honest though, that's my greatest fear. Debating is seldom an easy thing to do, because it may be a topic one of the parties feels strongly about, so any misplaced comment can ruin the whole idea exchange. That's why I'm now rarely debating here, as I've been having less and less time to read the views of other people and make sure I'm being fair to them, and I resort so much to humour (in case someone mistakenly believes I take myself too seriously). The few times I tried a different approach, they failed disastrously.
And to this day I sometimes have people tell me I'm condescending or pretentious, which shows I've a long way to go... or that it's inevitable.
