I have lived in Europe in the past, and while I agree that electronic music is a bit more mainstream over there, the roots of House & Techno are well planted in Chicago and Detroit's underground culture. In fact, many people (me, included) will agree that Chicago/Detroit were cradles of the emerging 808 culture of such time :)

Oh, I meant just the mainstream. Like, stop a random person on the street in the US and he or she wouldn't recognize the name of top techno/minimal producers. In Europe it's much more popular, and the overall clubbing scene is much more electronic-friendly.

I have to say it's much better up here... big scenes in Chicago and Detroit :)
