Clinical Testing & Research

Have you done it? Would you do it? Would you do it if the reimbursement was high enough?
I was recently informed about some testing for a pill that is going on for people who are allergic to cats and who are willing to do some clinical test with the reimbursement of 2500$. I personally wouldn't be some lab rat no matter what the pay out would be at the end but it got me thinking as to how many people have done it or would do it and why.
It would be fantastic not to be allergic to cats anymore, though. |

| It really helps to gather data. So do it, you are doing something useful and getting mula for it. |

I had a couple of friends do it over in the UK about 7 or 8 years ago. They got paid 2000 pounds each to basically play pool, watch TV, play video games and around on the net for a week. And do blood tests and whatever each day too.
Of course, one guy grew an extra head, but hey, no big deal.
As far as I'm aware, neither of them had any weird side effects or anything. |

Yeah but this involves pharmaceutical testing. It's a little more tricky than sitting around and farting all day. I wouldn't doubt that this was one of the side effects. :/
I wouldn't MIND doing it as long as I was assured that I wouldn't grow an extra toe. |

It wouldnt get through to human testing if it was dangerous. |

in my psych class in college, you had the option to either turn in a 10-page research paper on a topic of your choice or sit through any two sets of testing (for the med school, professors, etc.) for part of your grade.
...I wrote the paper. |

Not true at all. It just isn't immediately dangerous. No one knows or can predict the long term effects of some of these drugs before they go into clinical trials. Thats why they do clinical trials. That being said, it most likely is perfectly safe if you're only taking it for a week or so. |

Sorry, I didn't fully explain. The guys I knew were actually doing pharmaceutical testing. I can't remember exactly what the drug was now, just that they were given some kind of pills and monitored a couple of times a day. In between, they were just ing around (as described). |

I wont do it. Bleh.
I think it's 2 days a week for 2-3 weeks, I'm not too sure. I'd rather work without pay for that time than take a drug and be spied on like animals while it took its toll on my body. |

Why would you do that? I had the same option. One study I watched random images flash on a screen in front of me and then wrote down which ones I remembered, and in another they put a neural net on my head and measured my brain's response to a set of images. I think I had to do 4 hours worth total, I don't remember the other two, but they were along the same lines. Soooo much easier than a paper... |
