Anyone watching MLS playoffs?

Sure, American footie is on a different tier than most of the rest of the world, but I've tried to be a supporter in the hopes of kindling a fan base and Columbus has the best team in the league this year, so I've been following fairly closely. Playoffs have already kicked off but I was wondering if anyone else on TA is watching MLS while qualifiers and UEFA cup are on

UEFA Cup is more attractive brand of football, imo.

MLS has playoffs?

lulz

I really tried to make an effort to follow the MLS this season, couldn't do it. I just couldn't do it :o

I remember I went from joy quickly to emoness when I heard one of the bidders (and the favorites) for the new Miami mls team that might be created are FC Barcelona. Being a Real Madrid fan, this would totally make me confused about my possible future hometown team. I mean, do I have to root for Real Salt Lake now?

no clue whats goin on in the mls playoffs, but im guessing itll be Houston vs New England in the final.... again.

Houston and the Revolution are out :) Columbus and Chicago will play to represent the East and Real Salt Lake will take on New York for the right to represent the West.

Go Crew ;)

New York to represent the West :conf: ...the ...

strange like when the Atlanta Falcons used to be in the NFC West, its weird that they'd place NY in the West for the playoffs.

GO Mormon Putos!

MLS Playoffs are a little strange...

The Red Bulls are actually an Eastern Conference team, but they move to the west for the playoff. Here's how it works:

Each conference winner gets in automatically. From there, the top 6 teams (based on points) get in. If a conference sends more than 4 teams to the playoffs, teams finishing 5th or below are moved to the opposite conference's bracket to balance it out.

New York finished 5th in the East but had a higher point total (39) than 4th place in the west (Colorado - 38). Thus they get in as the low man in the west.

It's a strange format but I like it because it prevents situations like we've seen recently in the NFL or NBA where good teams are left out of the playoffs because they play in the "wrong" conference.

The first round of playoffs is a 2 game series with each team hosting. The winner is chosen by aggregate goals for those 2 games. Conference and League Finals are a single match. All draws are resolved with the usual dual 15 minute overtimes and PKs.

Game was awesome. Crew went down one late in the first but struck twice early in the 2nd for the win. The pace of the game was shaky at first but really picked up after the first 20 minutes or so. The place was twice as full as I've ever seen it and loud for a change. We had decent sideline seats; the Nordecke was hype as well.

Finals should be good. Hope the crew has a good showing.

Here's a few pics if you care:

If you like shaky hand cam videos of goals off a set piece and the camera holder celebrating while pointing the cam wherever, you'll love this:

cool

haha @ the Chicago Fire fans and the flares

NY made the final, gonna have to root for them since they have fellow contryman Juan Pablo Angel. He's been playing great in the MLS since he got there.

^He also lipped off to the press about how he wants to go play for River Plate

Not going to endear himself to Red Cows fans

And buddy, no 2000 TFC fans coming to Columbus. The word on the street is, Columbus sucks ass. (and Columbus still cant fill the stadium with a winning team and being in playoffs)

And Schelotto is a diving scum. Good player. But still a diving scum

I'll always think of Schelotto from when he was at scummy Boca. god I hate that team haha...

anyways, yeah Angel was a legend in River,he wants to recapture the glory days for sure before he gets older. If he does go there again , theyd have a all Colombian attack along with rising star Radamel Falcao.

both of them never seem to do for the National team though :/

Heh no arguments here, Schelotto spent a good portion of the game either lying on the turf or with his hands thrown in the air.

There's also talk of moving the team to Vegas which wouldn't surprise me since the Conf. Finals resulted in about 65% capacity. Sad to see the team go as they're the first pro team to base in Columbus in my lifetime, but not at all surprising. American anti-soccer attitudes aside, this is a Buckeye town first and only.

The U-Sector coming down in March was still an awesome experience and a small lesson to locals on how it should be :D
