in any of his fights.....the only time he was put in a bad situation was with Mir and he just lost focus for a second and Mir caught his leg. Couture never had LEsner back peddling or had him in a dominate position. |
Couture had him in trouble as long as he was able to keep him pinned against the cage struggling to get free, you could see Lesnar breathing hard and I suspect he didn't have much left in his tank to get much past the end of round 2. That cut he opened up may have ended up playing a factor later on in the fight too if he had made it that far. Swinging against Lesnar, he didn't have much of a chance. Only so much you can do against a 6 inch reach advantage. |

It was key he won it in the 2nd. Lesnar was starting to get gassed, and that's when his size would start to play in Randy's favor.
But a good fighter knows when to press a fight to win it, and he did last night. And another fight under is belt for experience too. He's going to be dominant in the heavyweight division for a while, even if he does lose to Fedor. |

I dont think its as close as people make it out to be, Randy will destroy Brock. When it comes to doubts about Randy not fighting for a year...people forget he took considerable time off after he retired from being light-heavyweight, only to come back and capture the HW title.
As for Brock, looking at his fights, his most notable win was against Harring, and for a guy with such power and size he did little more than just lay down on Harring for 3 rounds and pepper him with shots. He wont be able to do that against Randy and in any other area Randy has an advantage. Oh and lets not forget, Brock's chin was never tested, I dont think I saw him take a shot in any of his fights...I predict Randy knows that, and will come out swinging in the first round. |
:haha:
retirement time old man. |

fair enough. you've put more thought into it than I gave your credit ;) I still think experience and conditioning can't be discounted and don't believe at all that "rust" played any factor in this fight. Training is almost as hard as a fight and Randy has access to the best partners, facilities, etc. too.
there's no question that age results in declining reflexes though. I think Brock's striking was good enough (but isn't "great"), to show that Randy may have lost a step by now. He is indeed still raw and inexperienced. If he devotes himself to MMA, he'll be a nightmare for anyone.
Randy really didn't seem to have much trouble with Brock's size though, controlling him on the cage more than Brock controlled him. He's clearly strong enough to hang with him, but needs something more than just neutralizing his offense. Randy landed the odd good shot, cutting Brock (which distracted him, clearly), but never had Brock 'in trouble'. Randy was rarely in trouble too, but was rocked that one time, before recovering.
Randy is truly a UFC 'legend', but despite my arguments in this thread, I'm never been a massive fan. He's a bit undersized for HW (though that was never a problem until Brock came along), and today is probably a bit 'slow' for the new gen. of LHW. I think he'd have some trouble against the current crop of LHW, but I'd love to see how he measures up against guys that have really improved like Forrest, Rashad, Machida, etc. A fight with Henderson would be great to see.
as for retirement...I think Chuck has a lot more to contemplate than Randy. Chuck looked good against Silva, but his one dimensional style is failing him in other fights. He's a great kickboxer and wrestler and needs to change his game to reflect that his striking (boxing) alone can no longer win him fights.
Randy has plenty left. I'd like to see a rematch down the line, if he chooses to stay in the HW division. Otherwise, I'd love to see him fight Henderson soon-ish.
As for Brock. I'm sure he wants a rematch with Mir. Nogueira would be a great test too, so whoever wins between he and Mir will face a tough task.
It's *way* early to be contemplating a crack at Fedor (if that could somehow be arranged), but naturally that's where everyone eventually sees this going. Fedor would maul him now, but give Brock a year or so of similar serious training and it could be an interesting fight.
how about Florian choking out Stevenson. Florian gets so little respect, despite his accomplishments. I still think Penn is on another level and will kill him, but we'll see. |

that was in bull...lesnar looked like a lost puppy and had NO clue what he was doing..he was gassed after the first round...looking up at the clock and his corner for sweet mercy...
i think the problem was that couture got thrown off his game plan and could not take lesnar down cuz of his sheer size..and i think couture put way too much distance between them and paid the price with that lucky punch...bull...anyone who says that lesnar is some skilled mixed martial artist and the real thing is in la la land...he still has SO much to learn..and for him to even be the champion based purely on his size and strength is a spit in the face of the sport..and that`s my opinion..
the heavyweight division is so ing watered down that it`s basically become a joke..i hope that some legitimacy is brought back..either by lesnar getting his ass handed to him OR lesnar training his ass off and actually becoming a legitimate mixed martial artist....
either way, lesnar won and all it means is i have some great ppv`s to look forward to... |

Florian is crazy good. Can't wait till he gets a chance at Penn, i think an upset could be on the cards.
