I don't know a person who walks around their house showing off their weapons like they are a gangster. The time i used to take the pic was the only time that lock has been off on the trigger.
Just because you don't like it does not mean we have to change the laws. CA has the strictest gun laws in the nation...good for them! They need tough gun laws.
Tough gun laws? What a two week wait and a valid ID? Really tough.
You didn't address my post about it being a "sport", Maybe because it's not.
No and maybe they don't walk around their house showing them off, but there's plenty of gangsters who like to rob houses and like nothing more than a nice cache of fully automatic assault rifles to give their buddies at Christmas. Oh, yeah but they can;t rob your house because you've got automatic weapons to defend yourself with.
FACT: You are 5 times as likely to be killed by your own gun than by someone elses.
FACT: 4 out of 5 gun related homicides are purpotrated by a family member, with a family member's gun.
Is it really worth the very slim chance of successful defence or the love of your "sport"?

Very true. I would never confront anyone in my home with a center fire rifle no matter what caliber. In fact, I only keep a Mossberg 590 (loaded with Red Hulls) and a S&W M&P 9mm (loaded with frangible rounds) in my home. All of my other firearms are locked away safely in storage. I also never show my firearms off or brag about them because that is just asking for someone to break in and raid my house while I'm out.
There are two types of people: people who understand firearms and people who do not.
End of story.

Crazy Brits... I have yet to meet one that understands firearms.

Just because your difintion of what "sport" is, is not the same as yours does not mean its wrong. If a father and son are just playing catch...is that at sport or not? Just because i don't go and enter some competition base off points does not mean that i don't play "sport"
Here is the difitnion of sports:
quote:
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
not required to be competitive.
Lets see. Set of rules:
1. Only to allowed to shoot in one direction(check)
2. I shoot at targets, not just randomly in the air (check)
3. Only allowed to TOUCH a weapon when the range master has given the OK (double check)
Looks to be a sport to me.

Oh did i mention that its mostly kids that kill each other with a GUN (does not specify assualt rifles). Also people that let minors grab their guns are already committing a felony. They can't play ignorant. Go to a gun store in CA. That has to be posted where people can see.

A rule to only shoot in one direction? you may only shoot at targets on a range or at a club, but most don't, and that's certainly not the main reason people walk in to a gunshop to buy a guy. Only allowed to touch the weapon? What, so when you go to the storage facility to handle your guns (lol), you first go and ask the arms master for permission? comon now....
The baseball analogy is totally useless: stockpiling gloves and balls isn't a sport, never will be. Also, nearly all guns aren't designed for sport - they are designed with the sole purpose of killing, nothing else, and that's why it doesn't sit well calling it a "sport" to play with them.
Don't get me wrong - I don't think there's anything wrong with shooting at a range, I've done it and it's fun but really not a sport. And be realistic, people don't buy guns just to shoot at a range. There's plenty of ranges in the UK and you just have to get a licence for the gun, but general ownership is (rightly) restricted.
Wrong about the kids by the way - that's a fraction of the numbers, just very well publicised. It's overwhelmingly spouses and lovers who kill each other.
The scary thing is that as a gun owner, you should know that.

I am so confused about what you are saying. "really not a sport" so what you are saying that it is. You are also saying that my weapon is only made for killing. That means that i bought it for the sole reason to kill people.
I don't care how the U.S enforces their laws. Last time i checked i'm in the U.S. Also please, if your are going to cite statistics link your sources.

A hobby or a interest, not a sport. Why do gun manufacturers make guns? For gun range use? Seriously, you think that? You think automatic weapons are made for "sport"? Really?

I can keep going if you want but it only gets more depressing. I haven;t even quoted anything about kids or how easy it is to get an illegal weapon (which stems from ease of getting a legal gun, as the reports demonstrate).
The Brady report is complied with help and data from the US police forces in each state to monitor gun activity and promote sensible gun control.

that's a nice collection and i trust you're well-tempered, well-adjusted, well-educated, well-trained and well-off enough to use it responsibly, but that doesn't address the issue of: do you believe every 21-year-old in this country should be guaranteed the right to walk into a store and buy any and all of those guns without restriction because the 2nd amendment was written to prevent any sort of regulation whatsoever in contempt of the 10th amendment? that's the argument of the gun freak.

i was at a gun shop in livermore a while back when some dumb walks into the shop with a loaded .38 special revolver, walks up to the counter with his finger on the hairpin. the store owner kicked him out immediately, but that should have been a felony arrest. i know of way too many people who blew their brains out cleaning a chambered pistol like a in idiot. a few who left behind a widow and kids. with the level of ignorance pervasive in this country today, i honestly don't trust the population at large with true military assault weapons such as smgs and carbine rifles.
anyway my thoughts are since the assault weapons ban expired, the current degree of regulation is about right. esp in regards to ca ccw licenses.

I have better things to do with my time than to provide details, it was more of general statement about how stupid some people in this country are. But if you want facts it was on CNN and I can research specific sales trends in any specific region in the country if you'd like cuz Marketing research is my thing, but that's best reserved for school projects, where I mostly put my time and effort instead of getting on a message board to be politically correct (which am not). The only thing this proves is that i am right. The POSSIBILITY exist. It is on his agenda. I think Obama will be a great president, i'm sure he can mulittask. I don't think he would have a problem handling multiple issues at the same time, to include the ban.
