Curious to know:

How old are you guys?
How long have you been in the EDM scene?
When did you first discover electronic music?(80's 90's, late, recently)

Started hearing this music when I was in junior high(1993). Back then they would pass around tapes from a bunch of unknown artist I can't even recall. House was popular, Humpty Vision, William Orbit etc. Went to my first party when I was 19. Stopped for a couple of years.

I used to go to a lot of warehouse parties when I was in Florida (born and raised there, mvoed to SF in late '99). THey would actually have some party in school gyms, but I think that was banned a couple years before I left.

One of my first roommates got a job as a bouncer at Ten15 and EndUp...a great combo to have a hookup back then, lol. I'd occasionally go to those places back then, but sparingly because it was still when I didn't like to go out alone.

I started going out alone after stumbling in front of ten15 with a bunch of friends one Friday night. Saw my old roommy, who was now a roommate with someone else I was with...and we decided to ditch the rest of the group and go in.

Went in ... and it was Ferry Corsten. What luck! Was amazing! My friend doesn't like real crowded areas so he bailed afte rlike 30 minutes but I stayed...till the end. Gianni came on after Ferry adn was amazing too!

From that point on I started going just about every weekend....until it was every weekend. Both Friday and Saturdays. No matter who played...then i started posting on the old 1015 board....but still didn't know most of them in person, until Security Dave gave the board the upstairs Blue Room (now the VIP balconoy area) privately one night....so we could all meet each other, DJ,e tc. Me being shy at introducing myself, everyone recognized me and came up to me...and the rest is history. This is early 2003 I do believe.

A short time later I went an saw Josh Gabriel play at Anu....Dave Dresden was there too....that's the night when Sean (ManiacalIrish) introduced me to Guiv (co-founder of Spundae)....and I have just gotten to know more people since.

So, being on the "inside" in a mutual-respectiveness way, since mid-2003.

Officially...as I'm officially with a promoter/club/group/etc....that would be January 2005.

i'm 26 now. i used to kick it with a much older crowd so i started hitting the clubs with them as soon as i turned 21. my buddies spun tribal house so that's what i stuck with before i began following big djs. back in high school i tuned into house nation on 107.7 a lot so i was already into house music. i'd been to some raves that were attached to car shows in my high school years also, but trance didn't really stick with me until 2004 when i went to check out j00f at 1015 on a whim with my roommates (it was new years day and we weren't done partying haha). at the time i was really into sasha and holden's new albums and was just starting to listen to asot back when armin was speaking dutch (i thought that was the coolest ever). asot really brought me into the fold and my next 3 shows where i went specifically for a dj was the weekend of g&d at paradise lounge and c law and armin at ruby. i went to all 3 back to back. from there it was zabiela at paradise when he first started playing with ableton live. after those performances, i was sold on the scene.

Im 26, went to a NYE massive at the orange show in 97 when i was 15. Although I was into some hard core/gabber and other crap, I didnt really get into the scene until a few years after. I was mostly at raves every weekend from 2000-02 when i turned 21 and did my first club at Avalon (the palace back then) with Judge Jules.

After that, made my way into Spundae, met the family, got a couple DJ bookings, and the rest is history...

I'm 37 and the first time I remember hearing "techno" music was about 91ish definitely 92. The Sesame Street song and the Speed Racer songs were my favorite at the time. At my 21st bday party at my house, my bf(hubby now) and his friend brought their tables and played those songs and "high energy" stuff and my family was giving looks like WTF? It was funny.

So the answer I guess is 91 and been with it since. :toothless

I'm 24, started listening to dance music when I was 14-15 years old...maybe 13. Started djing at 17 and started going out around 18-19, that's when I started getting fake IDs :p

I'm 22. I started listening to a lot of euro-trance cheese back in 1998, no joke! I'd spend hours downloading DJ Mystik off of napster, LOL! I'd be bumping that in my room!

Started dj'ing at 18. Mostly trance. I was introduced to Nathan Fake and James Holden, made a complete turn-around towards the glitch/minimal sound.

I am 32. Only been in the scene a few years. Went on a backpacking trip through Europe after a bad divorce in 2004. I had never listened to any sort of EDM. After hitting up clubs across western Europe, especially London, I was hooked. Came back to the US a was a little disappointed in what I found. Enjoyed my nights out in SF and SD more than LA. I have also traveled to Asia (Thailand, Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Singapore), and had fun at clubs there too. Never been to a rave... I think I missed my opportunity coming into this at 27!

Been on this board for a few years (in the beginning just lurking), and have found this place to be very informative and pretty friendly.

I'm 27. Started clubbing in London at 14 (master of "adjusting ID's") on the indie and hardcore(oldschool), moved on to oldschool/hardcore/D&B rave scene then a year later and my first proper house club while on a family holiday, I was 16 and it was Manumission Ibiza (Ku/privilige) age 16......suddenly all those radio one tapes my brother in law had from the early 90's made sense....changed my life and been clubbing ever since. Started Dj ing at 16/17 and producing since 21.
