Until I see less than $1/GB prices on SSD's, I'm sticking with my current disk drives. I doubt that'll be by mid-2009. Though, feel free to quote me if I'm wrong. |

Well, as I mentioned, there is now a windows based utility that AMI has put out. This basically negates any need to worry. |

Kind of. SSDs still have a long way to go. They have little to no benefit at this point. Cost is not the only real world factor I am looking for. I want a drive that performs better than current SATA drives. Not one that performs at or below current drives. |
Average random access read is incredibly faster on SSD's, + no seek delay. writing is about on par or a bit slower.
Just need a small SSD for a windows install; cut your boot times down to less than a quarter of what they would be on a HDD. Seems like a decent enough benefit :)
Personally I'd be happy with 80GB for $100. |

While the read times are quicker, that is useless with general use. Since writing is quite a bit of most use. Gaming is the only thing that writing is not the predominant function. |

Again, the windows utility is fine. It has safeguards in place to prevent problems. |

The last time I flashed a bios was 1999 or 2000. These were not available then. I blew the bios but got MSI to replace the bios chip for free. :D |

Anymore, even booting to the flash utility from a Floppy or flash drive is very easy. I personally don't trust flashing from Windows. Although, I realize the risk is still minimal, there are that many more things that could go wrong while in the OS, instead of booting straight to a utility. I do agree that you shouldn't flash your bios just for the hell of it. Though, I doubt Krypton will even need to do that with such a minute CPU upgrade.
EDIT: He's still yet to tell us which motherboard he has. If he could supply that information and his BIOS date, it'd be easy to find out if a BIOS update is in his future or not. |
