I'm having a problem with Deadbeat's music

So I bought a ticket today for Deadbeat's live performance on Friday, and I'm listening a bit of his material to prepare myself. I'm currently going through his new album Roots And Wire, and while I must admit it sounds fantastic production wise (his use of drums is really refreshing and that reverb manipulation is simply astounding), there's something missing, that catchiness, that "it" factor that makes me want to listen it again. Maybe beacuse this is just a first listen, but I'd like to hear if anyone else feels the same way about his music or am I the only one?

I like it.

Define "it" factor.

tell us what tracks have this "it" factor to you...you might answer your own question.:)
idoru
Because.

Heh, that "it" factor is unexplainable, I'd say it's that perfect harmony of all elements that make one track stand out from the rest. For example Mecca has that "it" factor, however I didn't find any (techno) track on Roots And Wire that has that "it" factor. I expect another it's all subjective answer...
elFreak
maybe, or maybe you only listened to it once. There is a lot of complexity to that album, even though i do not consider it to be his best work :)

Yeah, I'm definitely getting some of his older work, although I first want to absorb his newer material (since he'll probably be promoting the new album). Sad to hear he's not in form of his career these days...
elFreak
roots and wire is not his most recent release:)
julien2
Deabeat =/= techno

There's your problem to being with
elFreak
to be fair julien he does make some techno.

julien2
Of course, but we can agree that Roots and Wire (the album the OP has first listened to) is not your typical techno record.

It has a lot more of a dub/dubstep, nu-reggae feel to it, no ?

Although his two last EPs on Cynosure and Wagon Repair do belong to the more classical meaning of techno.

So, OP, you might want to check those two if you want sounds closer to techno.
ownymcown
it's spelled DEADMAU5 not deadbeat, i think that's the problem right there
