I'm too lazy to make an in-depth review but i guess a short one is better than none at all.
First of all i agree that the mixing is better than your first mix. That said, i don't think it's half as good because of the track selection. Most of the tracks does nothing for me. Actually i think most tracks are pretty boring. Not my style at all, except for Paper Jet.
Keep it up though, it seems most people are pleased with this mix. :) |

Had a chance to give this a listen today, I was really digging it. There are a lot of great tracks in here, and the flow is really nice.
Great job. |

In a post you said you were using a mouse and a keyboard, for what? DVS, Ableton?
Enjoyed the dark side better because of my personal musical tastes, but I feel you excelled in the light portion. The dark side seemed a bit...forced? Like you were struggling to get some nice tracks to fit together. The overall concept worked though, did you plan a dark to light theme or did the name come to you after?
I did exactly what denys envy did on the first transition. I heard it and had to rewind because something just seemed off.
Flow throughout the set was consistent, with some nice peaks here and there. Like someone previously stated I think your transitions need to start a bit sooner. Energy really dies down when your incoming track is still in its basic "thud thud thud" stage.
Enjoyed it, looking forward to the next. |

Oscar, first of all let me say that this was technically leaps and bounds above your 'Tones' mix. You've come a long way since that mix, in terms of mixing capability and flow. I really, really enjoyed this. The deep and techy sounds at the beginning, set a very good tone for the rest of the mix. The gradual pick up in pace throughout this was very subtle and made for a great climactic bring in of 'Flamenco Loco' which I feel is the crescendo of the mix. 'BSOD - Last Life' was a good choice for the outro track.
I'm very impressed by overall gains you've made since July. It's quite remarkable actually.
Bravo mate. Keep up the great work, many more listens to come from me. :) |
Thanks for the review Chris, It feels very nice to hear this kind of comments because it means that I'm doing something right and that the hard work, the effort, and the time I've been putting into this is paying off and I'm one step closer to getting to where I want to get skill-wise. :)

ing wicked! Rich, flowing prog, and I absolutely loved it man.
2+ hours next time please! Despite it's decent length, I still thought it ended too soon! :p
Great work :) |
Thanks Stu, very glad you enjoyed it that much. And once again, thank you very much for the proper hosting :)

I just finished listening to the mix, although I must say I played it from my laptop, so sound quality wasn't all that. So I can't really comment on the smallest mixing and eq-ing details yet, but as soon as I've given it a proper headphone listen I'll try to do that as well.
I must say that the set was f*cking awesome in terms of buildup and consistency! All tracks fitted very well within the general theme of the mix, and you programmed them excellently in a way that energy levels gradually and naturally rise with each track, without going over the top. Very well done. The trackselection itself was mint too, a great mix between recent and not so recent work, all in function of the end result, which is pretty solid and consistent. There's a few different moods throughout the mix, yet every track has more or less the same underlying "vibe". I can tell you put a lot of effort in selecting and programming, something I can really appreciate in a dj :)
The mixing itself sounded pretty good, I couldn't detect any large errors or hiccups in terms of beatmatching and phasematching. I must agree with Denys though, that sometimes the transitions could have started a bit earlier to keep the pace of the mix even faster and tighter. Not that they're boring or draining the set of its energy, but I think you could achieve really great transitions if you start mixing just a tad earlier. For example, the transition between Elif and Freiflug. I'm not sure, but I think that if you could match that saxophone melody with the first melody line of Freiflug (that comes in at around 17'OO"), you get an awesome result. :) |
Thanks man, really looking forward to reading your comments about the eq-ing and the mixing. That's the stuff that I need right now to progress skill-wise.
You have no idea how pleased I am at the fact that my track selection and flow have been getting such compliments. I think that one of the major lessons I learned from 'Tones' was to keep a consistent flow while being much more diverse on my selections. I think there was only one comment regarding that aspect, but it really made me think and I'm glad I took the advice :)
I will definitely look into the "mixing earlier" tips I've been getting. I listened to Denys' mix in the car on the way to my girlfriend's house and I was REALLY able to see (or hear, actually lol) what he meant. I notice that he is able to match the incoming melody of the incoming track after the intro at just the right time before the outgoing track goes "thud thud thud" (in Alex's words :p)

Great set man, really sounds like a step up from Tones so the improvement is definitely there.
I thought the flow was awesome. Started with a more deep / techy feel and slowly worked your way to the proggy section, all the while maintaining that nice house groove. Mixing was pretty good from what I could tell, nothing really stuck out or sounded forced, but I do suppose you could start mixing out sooner (I really need to work on that too).
The prog section had me a bit worried because I usually am turned off by most prog coming out these days, but I really enjoyed what you did here. A couple of the tracks near the end had some nice synth lines and I actually really enjoyed what I heard. Again nice work, keep at it.
Oh and that artwork is sick.
:) |
Thanks for listening mate, much appreciated ;)
Yeah, you really have to dig to find nice prog these days. Seems that everyone is producing tech house or techno these days, which I do enjoy but I do miss the soulful prog of the old days. Check out some of Sam's and Chris's mixes (kadomony and cmay119), they are filled with nice new prog house that I think you will enjoy ;)

Thanks for listening Alex, I think this strays a bit from what you usually listen to judging by your own mixes, and I'm glad you were able to enjoy it. One of the things I tried with this one was to try to appeal to a much broader audience by bringing more variety to the track selection :)
I've been using Traktor to make my mixes, I took a shot at an Ableton demo a while back but I couldn't really get into it. I really like the layout and feel of Traktor and feel very comfortable using it.
Regarding the transition into "The Case", I tried several different ways to mixing it but none of them sounded just right. I really like the way the two tracks sound one after the other and the only way I found to mix them without having the vocals of "The Case" clash with the outro of "Eleven" was that way.
Once again, thanks to all for taking the time to listen to this and commenting on it. |

| Hey Oscar, just finshed listening to your mix this morning and I really enjoyed it. What I really enjoyed was the first 30 minutes of your mix. It showed the diversity of tracks that you had, compared to Tones which was basically more Anjunadeep style tracks. I liked the feel of these tracks in particuar becuase they were very loungy and laidback type deep and tech house. Although on the the other hand at the end of the mix you brought in the heavy hitters just like you did in Tones which was brillant. I'm looking foward to more sets bro! Overall , great job! |

Thanks for the listen and the review Andy. Glad to see you enjoyed it and that you noticed the change in pace and the diversity of the track selection compared to 'Tones'. Like I said before, that was one of the main things I tried to achieve with this mix. :)
And by the way, the link for the split tracks version is up on the first post. |

This was a nice set, although a bit techy for my tastes at the moment.
I really liked:
03. Marc Romboy - Elif (Will Saul & Tam Cooper Remix) [Systematic]
05. Will Saul & Tam Cooper - Tech Noir (Phonique Remix) [Simple
08. Foremost Poets - Moonraker (Magik J's Back To My House Remix) [NRK]
09. Paul Keeley - Paper Jet (Original Mix) [Anjunadeep]
10. Jay Kay - Twist (Original Mix) [Whoop!]
11. My Digital Enemy - Flamenco Loco [MDE Records]
12. Orli & Martie - Sheila (Novy & Bahil Remix) [Kosmo Records]
13. BSOD - Last Life [Xfer Recordings]
So yea, I liked the set :D

Actually, I did plan to start with the deeper, techier stuff and move into the more progressive, lighter stuff. But I hadn't come up with a name for the mix just yet. It all came together when I found the artwork ;)

Thanks for the listen, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I see that you liked the second half better than the first, I think it does fit your own style better. As for me, well I think I'm getting more and more into the first half kind of stuff lately. Certainly love the depth. Looking forward to hearing your extended review :) |

Hi Woscar
Finally I got a chance to listen to this
From the technical side of things, like someone else said your mixes are sometimes too late . Beatmatching was ok overall :)
Going to track selection beacause thats whats important. First half is that kind of techy deep house like a lot of djs plays these days so if youre going to go this road youre not gonna stand out from the crowd in my opinion. Second half is more proggy melodic house. I like that kind of house better but that part consits too many well known tracks, my advice would be to dig deeper in finding your music. Summing up set is good but not a stuff that I would return to more than twice:)
PS. Actually I was hoping you would go in the direction of house with some funky "discoish" elements, but if you feel better in this techy/deep house thats fine, most important thing is to play what you like:)
All the best to you.
Cheers
Seb:) |

All I can say is that I loved it just as much as everything else you've mixed, not more, but certainly not less.
I wasn't that much into the beginning, but it just kept getting better and better by the minute.
And then it ended :(
Definitely a keeper, next time make it 4hrs... or 8!
Oh, and thanks for the headz up :) |
