i already posted this on howardforums.com but havent really gotten an answer so i thought i would try here since i know some of you are really good with phones, mainly blackberry.

so i have a blackberry curve 8310 on rogers. i recently did the os4.5 update and everything went well except for one thing. my phone doesnt ring or make any tones when i get a text or messenger. i checked the profile settings and everything is correct. something i did notice is when i go to the list of tones it is supposed to play a sample of each tone while i scroll through the list but it doesnt do that any more. is the speaker disabled or something?

uhhh.. .. i cant do without my blackberry even for a day. if having it serviced is the only fix then i will just live with the problem.

I would go back to the old OS.. but hey ya never know they might release a patch to fix that. I would of contacted RIM directly although they do all their support through the providers.

try this website ... http://forums.crackberry.com/

3 things.

#1 call Rogers Blackberry support see if they know what the problem is. They can be helpfull at times.

#2 re-install the software and see if it works.

#3 call rogers and tell them to warrenty the phone and send you a new one. Takes 1 day, swap your phone and then mail the old one back. Total downtime is less then 20 min. (backup and swapping handset)

i have already tried to reinstall software but it keeps telling me there is nothing to install because my phone already has all the current software. downgrading to 4.2.2 then upgrading back to 4.5 is too much of a pain in the ass.

i will try calling rogers after lunch.

ps. ack u mr bodor

Okay...so it's just you! Haha

I'm still unsure what to do. I don't need a new phone right now, so I'm not too concerned, but I've been toying around with the idea of getting a blackberry. I don't have any use for data right now, nor do I have the money for it. But I don't get new phone every year, so I figured it I have a blackberry, at least the option will be there in the future.

so i called rogers blackberry tech support and the guy tried to help me but its a hardware issue. speakerphone doesnt even work.

my phone is 13 months old so it is not covered under warranty. they transferred me to another department for upgrades and they said the curve 8900 would cost me about $600 (including taxes) and a curve 8310 would be $520. that.
