Absolutely fantastic album! "Substrata" is a classic ambient work by this talented Norwegian. You are the winner so far ;)
(+1 for JBJ and "Dunwich beach, Autumn 1960"- another beautiful Eno work from his fantastic Ambient-4-On Land album! Full of abstract nostalgy)
And who else knows this fantastic ambient artist- Manual? Yes he is another artist making soundscapes which some of us love. His new album called "Confluence" is ace, his soundscapes sound quite esoteric and mystical somehow (and i hate new age). Check out his previosu works as well, some of which are better IMO (and some more dynamic than drone). Ofcourse he sounds like Stars of the Lid etc. but he is good at it.
His "Boy is Fiction" 2007 album is one of the best "electronica" (whatever that means) works of the recent years. Blending IDM-type elements, atmospheric downtempo with gentle piano and orchestral movements, post-rock epic moments and harsh industrial beats and distortions, the end-result is beautifully emotive, cinematic and original.
And who remembers Durutti Column? Its one of my favorite old experimental bands lately (well ,most of my music is for "chilling" lol), one of the first new-wave bands to experiment with weird atmospheric quitar distortions, synths, samples and tape recorders, creating a kind of electronic-ambient-new-wave-post-punk-dubedelia :wtf: . This band had actually a large influence in all later-day shoegaze, ambient, post-rock, electronica, industrial-you name it. Yes its Durutti Column with the tune "Missing Boy" dedicated to the death of the leader of another amazing post-punk/new-wave band-Ian Curtis of Joy Division
