'on-call' shifts

biggest bull ever
i had an 'on-call' shift today at work, way i was told was i'd get a call 1-2 hours prior to the actual on-call to confirm wether or not i have to go in. instead, my boss calls me the time of the shift, blaming me for not coming in, saying they need me. i didn't pick the phone up, so i'm excited to see how it works out tomorrow when i go in.
so, her entire philosophy is that it's pretty much my responsibility to be home all day on an on-call, just in case something pops up, basically ing up your entire day, not sure wether you can go out or not. seriously, if you're going to give someone hours, at least make it a REAL shift, not this uncertain bull where i have to plan my entire week around a bunch of bull- shifts that really should not exist in a retail environment.
seriously, it's retail, in a store that is usually dead, even on the holidays. you don't 'need' me, you simply prefer i come in to lighten up peoples responsibilities. |

i only do it part time to get hours on the days im not working at the auto shop. makes no ing sense whatsoever |

they give them to everyone, which really confuses me. i mean, they have been hiring so many part timers and seasonal's and have this huge arsenal of full timers. i don't understand why they don't just give people actual shifts, and spread those hours.. it really s your plans up
and i live about 20 minutes from the place |

I had similar policies in retail when I worked at Pacific Sunwear in high school, as well as at two restaurants I worked at. Complete ing joke - "Yeah, we're going to need you to be available all day today, but we might not pay you for it. If you aren't, you're axed."

| It is not too bad. Only night off this week, going to grocery shop and just take it easy, and then try to bust my ass for my last week of work before settling into the holidays, trying to take a vacation, and finding a new job. |

probably high turn over rate for part timers in retail so they must want to spread out the hours to as many ppl as possible so if somone leaves it doesn't effect them.
not really a valid excuse retail sucks and full time managers are petty bitches |
