i agree. There's a lot more to that line he said, if one has watched the movie. It does sound cheesy, but there's more meaning to it other than it's heart-touching loving words.

:p

//edit

still not bought into as "the best movie of 2008". :( maybe top 10 at best, but not best.

I agree here, definitely a top 10 movie, but so far, in this season of great movies, Milk is going higher, cant wait to watch Frost/Nixon and Gran Torino as well, seems Benjamin Button is good but ive heard some mixed reviews, might wait on it for DVD.

The movie is much more than a "mushy cheese ass love story". That is one of the many subplots rolling around the movie.

There are subplots such as greed, despair, angst, happiness, friendship and bond, great shots of Mumbai, India, doubt, and that slight feeling to cheer for the anatagonist of the 2 boys after the ending of the movie. I just had the feeling that he did what he had to do to reconcile all the actions he caused towards the protagonist of the 2 boys.

Wow! Danny Boyle has outdone himself...
A great love story, a great inspiration. This movie had me glued to my seat until the very end, one of the best endings i've seen in quite a while.

My favorite character in the movie is Salim. Tempted with power, lust, money, greed... this tragic villain consistently makes decisions that will selfishly further his own interests. However for a couple defining moments in the movie, he gives up everything by placing family first, and doing what is necessary to protect his brother. In the end you can only admire his final decision in spite of everything else he has done to Jamal previously.

9.5/10 movie of the year for 2008 for me

Saw this movie on New Years day. Fantastic movie. Well put together, awesome plot and character development, very good flow, and its continuity is spot on.

Great movie.

No flaws in anything that it does, but perhaps the only flaws are that there are things it doesn't do. Enjoyed it very much throughout. I wonder how it did in India.
