can you hook up a mouse and keyboard to either one of these consoles, and play the game like on a pc?
is there any delay, would the controls be as smooth as it would on a pc?

PS3
You can hook up both a wireless mouse / keyboard and plug the reciever into the USB port at the front of the device. So you can sit on your couch and surf the net on your Massive LCD Screen :). Im not sure if games would be compatible as they have been designed to use the controller.

You can hook up a keyboard but it is meant mainly as a chat and web surfing interface. The PS3 has a built in web browser and you use the keyboard/mouse for that...but all games for the PS3/360 are built for use with their specific controllers. You can't play PS3 games on a keyboard. |

Why would the control be any smoother on a keyboard as opposed to a controller?
This sounds backwards to me. |

Because most games are a lot better on a mouse/keyboard than a gamepad. Try playing counter strike on a gamepad. |

i hate playing games on a controller, even grand theft auto; plays better on mouse/keyboard
never have gotten comfortable with the use of a controller, but unfortunately don't think i can use it with consoles :(
then again i think everyone would buy a console if you could use your mouse/keyboard to control the game. don't see why they haven't created such a feature yet as most games on pc are either console ports or don't run that well, and instead of upgrading constantly to get good performance, i'd rather get a console and play the games that way |

Mouse/keyboard support is dodgy at best. You won't get anything near PC performance, unfortunately.

If you do some browsing on most console gaming forums, you'd find that the audience tends to prefer controllers over mouse/keyboard, even for FPSs. A lot of console gamers are new gamers who never had proper introduction to PC controls, or in some cases who wouldn't have the gaming skills to benefit from greater control freedom. That being said, alot of the appeal of multiplayer console games would be lost when people using controllers would constantly get beaten by people using keyboard and mouse. Competitive games like counterstrike don't find much of a market there. |

more bollocks.
PC games run better, look better, are more customisable, have scaling, and generally just all over console titles when ported (if the porting is done properly). Bioshock, GTA IV, fallout 3, left 4 dead, assassin's creed etc etc etc were all better on the PC. |

i guess that is why such a great majority of the GTA community is complaining about performance issues with GTA IV on systems that should be performing a bit better than high 20 fps
E6600 @ 3.8ghz
4GB ddr2
8800 640 oc'ed well enough
32fps usually
and it's not just me
and i've played gta iv on console, to me, it runs smooth as silk compared to the PC version |

and yet all reviews state that the PC version is still better.
I have no doubt that such issues will be fixed with a patch, ala GTA 3, or PC users can simply do with turning down a few effects here and there (whilst still looking better than the consoles of course). |
