So here's my question...

The person with PTSD walks in for a session, takes a pill, and starts to feel good. Well, what happens in an hour when the person wants another one? Is the doc gonna give him another one? What if the guy tells the doc, "man...these Mitsubishis suck...can I have that Pink Rolex instead?" What will the doc do, huh?

This is all very upsetting.

the phase 1 safety study came back positive for efficacy of mdma in treating post traumatic stress disorder--from people ranging from rape victims to war veterans

phase 1 trials are not efficacy, they only test for safety using healthy subjects.
I call bull.

by the way even if it has just gone through phase 1 its still many years away from market.

I think it'll probably happen eventually. There's just an overwhelming amount of research done showing the positive side effects of therapeutical MDMA use.

Not really sure if it has any implications on recreational use though, perhaps if medicinal supplies are leaked onto the black market we'll see an increase in the average purity of street MDMA, which would be a good thing for the health of the consumers.

It would also be nice if this meant we could get some really clear, unbiased research done into the long term effects of MDMA use. We've been told everything from 'a few weeks abstinance will cure any symptoms' to 'even very moderate use will leave your brain damaged for life.' I think the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle, but it's hard to know who to believe when so many groups have a vested interest in the results of these studies.

You wanna throw some links or sources in there to back that up?

You went on to query the long term effects, but he reason the studies are coming up with conflicting results is because ecstasy hasn't been around long enough to properly determine the 'long term' issues that may arise from its use.

I'm not anti ecstasy by any means, I've had hundreds of pills in my party times, and damn, it's great. Duh.

But therapeutic? I find that to be a little bit of a stretch.

IMO, obviously.

watch Peter Jennings Ecstasy Rising, for a starter.

if you're more into reading than watching, here is a nice place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDMA_therapy

edit: just noticed that it wasn't the article i thought it was, still a nice read tho
