Ok seriously, people who can compare sylenth to z3ta..

When I first got z3ta I was like "ok decent, pretty cool, nothing spectacular".

Well years later its became my favorite synth as I find myself getting virus like pitch lfos from it and all around wonderfully deep sounds. Its almost hard to make an actual bad sound from it imo.

I've tried the sylenth demo and I didn't really get to see what all the hype is about. Then I'm reading about it in Future Musics December issue today and am thinking damn I should just get it.

One thing I've noticed is it actually takes me a while to appreciate a good synth. It was the same thing with Albino, took me at least 2 years before I really started to see where it stood out.

I know sylenth isn't new or anything but for those who have it what are your opinions? Does it just sound good? Because it seems most of the best synths out there all essentially can make the same sounds. Is sylenth just another synth or something in its own league?

i like it. it's not ground-breaking or anything, but it's neat

i still prefer reaktor/circle to anything these days though

i heard hanz zimmer used it for the batman sound track.. :D

have they finished shooting?

By my quick count:

# of Oscillators:
Z3TA+ = 6
Sylenth1 = 4 (2 per part)

# of LFOs:
Z3TA+ = 6 (freely assignable)
Sylenth1 = 2 (shared between 2 parts)

# of Envelope Generators:
Z3TA+ = 8 (6 freely assignable, 2 dedicated [pitch & ampifier])
Sylenth1 = 2 (shared between 2 parts)

Modulation Sources:
Z3TA+ = 33
Sylenth1 = 15

Modulation Destinations:
Z3TA+ = 78
Sylenth1 = 27

Filter Types:
Z3TA+ = 10 (LP/HP/BP/BR in 2- & 4-pole; plus 6-pole LP and Formant)
Sylenth1 = 6 (LP/HP/BP each in 2- & 4-pole)

See a trend here? Sylenth1 is alright and comes with some decent presets (if you're a trance junkie), but Z3TA+ destroys it in virtually every category, and at a cheaper price.

Though z3ta has a lot more functionality than Sylenth1, where Sylenth1 shines more than z3ta is that it has 2 individual parts. This means that you can essentially create 2 completely different sounds and layer them together to create what most people know as a "performance" patch, making it work just like a JP-80x0. z3ta is great because it does have 6 oscillators, but layering 2 parts is an effect that it simply can't emulate. That doesn't necessarily make Sylenth1 "better", but it is something that makes it different from z3ta.

Looks that way, but I think you have to consider quality as well as quantity. How does the sound of Z3ta's filters and Sylenth1's filters compare, for example?

I only have Z3ta, so I don't know the answer to that question...

It's true that Sylenth1 has 2 parts, but you can essentially achieve the same effect (and then some) with Z3TA+ by running its two filters in parallel and routing any combination of its 6 oscillators to either filter, whereas with Sylenth1, you are locked into 2 dedicated oscillators per part. Also, with Sylenth1, you are limited to one envelope generator per part (shared by each part's oscillator), whereas you have complete freedom to route any of Z3TA+'s EGs to any of its oscillators, thereby giving you WAY more flexibility than Sylenth1 could ever hope to achieve. I'd have to say that the only strengths that Sylenth1 has are its simplicity and its sound - it does sound pretty damn good and there's a lot to be said for that. But, I still prefer the sound of Z3TA+ (and its filters).

Actually, I'll add one more small plus in the Sylenth1 column - its GUI is MUCH nicer IMO than Z3TA+'s factory GUI, but there are some decent skins out there for Z3TA+ that are much better than the horrid stock one. :nervous:

More oscs, more filter types, more modulations.. These are just numbers.
How do they compare in sound? Zeta sounds pretty bad imo. It just has a tonal
character thatīs not very appealing TO ME. Therefore I find sylenth1 to be a lot better, as I really like itīs sound.
It sounds very digital, but crisp and natural. :clown:

i would never understand what u need 6 osxs for anyway? In reasons thor there are three and i rarely use more than two. lfos on the other hand i cant get enough of.

aside from the technical stuff i think both vst's are awesome. I prefer sylenth1. It's smooth and fat. It's character is great. I do find it to be too smooth a lot too though. It lacks punch where z3ta has plenty. Z3ta is a lot more agressive and a bit more distinct i think.

hans zimmer used "zebra" as the only softsynth in the dark knight soundtrack. it wasn't sylenth.
