Well we all know taste in music is a subjective matter, good music to you = bad music to others.. I can see where you're coming from, but atleast it means he's picky in hes music selection, which might mean he listens actively and analytically to music, which in turn is preferable if you're going to make music urself, and which in turn MIGHT mean he's a perfectionist and doesnt settle with mediocre results, which in turn often is preferable if you wanna make "good" music.
I think thats what hes trying to say rather..

not sure u asked me but ill answer anyway, i have a fulltimejob or more like 1,5*fulltime job = 50hours a week sometimes, which is also on a computer and being abit creative so my head is abit tired once im home, this make me only have like 1 hours each day for producing (except weekends and holidays which is generaly when i make all my tracks). so the more efficient i can make my workflow the better. reason is perfect for that but i feel it lack somewhat in the mixdown so im trying to get time to learn logic express and do my mixdowns there. maybe also converting fully to logic in some years and first then ill be able to start looking at VST. I do not have ANY time learning any useless stuff and vst-synths are one of them as im happy with the synthsounds i make already. if i feel i have time learning anything new its gotta be logic and nothing else. |

Why do rock songs use the C7 more than a bosendorder. I never said tools are limited to a genr but it is pretty clear that certain tools are more oriented to certain applications.

Wasn't aware that anyone masturbated over supersaws anymore. But they're used in almost every dance genre. Boesendorfers are used heaps in rock. Jazz and metal guitar players use the same guitars - quite often PRS guitars, otherwise often gibson les pauls. Tools are tools. You are a tool. |

I clearly said tools are never limited to a genre but you will find alot of tools tend to be more suited for a genre. YOu listing exceptions as the basis of your argument is pretty pathetic. |

Its a completely flawed argument. How on earth can ones taste in music mean they are more likely to make good music than one with bad taste? In who's opinion? Who decides whats good taste and whats bad taste?

I spend hours at uni talking over subjective things like we have been debating for 3 weeks what is art?
In the tate modern at the moment there is an exibition of 3 flourescent lightbulbs stood against a wall some people love it and go oh how deep etc I dont but it is art. Same with genres |

i'm going to suggest the same thing i suggest to everyone that is interested in dance music. for one as a producer you need to learn basic (piano/keyboard functions). otherwise you will be playing with piano rolls for the rest of your life.
But honestly, you just need to start with a DAW. fruity, reason (which i think is great having come from and anaglog experince).
but honestly the best advice i can give is just find a DAw that works with you and let's you learn and start doing what you want to do a as quick as you can.

yeah the saw will never leave, it's a staple in the scene, and honestly a great one at that. I always love me some uplifting trance driver!!! (mellow super saw over a nice hard driving beat with beautifel melodic riffs (minor 7th, to get that anjuna feel), still suporting that super saw, just got to make your beats tighter and your melodies more emotional and uplifting.
All in all, i love the super saw and glad it's around. Even after some years of trance doing it's thing , it's still around and rockin' hard as ever. |
