Fl Studio 8 Fruityloops Edition.
Pros
-Very easy to learn.
-Piano roll is great
-Some very powerful VST's, once you know what you are doing.
-Some effects have been upgraded which is great.
-A lot of what others have already said.

Cons
-Automation is a pain in the ass.
-Most of the VST's are capable but some are just absolute ass.
-Some of the old effects are still pretty bad.
-Kinda difficult to edit .wavs in Edison.

Automation is so quick and intuitive.

Is FL the only DAW that is pattern based, or do other DAW's make use of it ?

In the producer's edition it's pretty easy. Because you can use the window above the play list.

One of the few reasons why in a couple months I'll probably be upgrading.

didnt know fl was that? reason can be if u use the matrix device - always the way i make baselines.

Logic 8:

+'s
Fantastic included instruments, and effects
Solid Piano Roll
Good sample editing
Fantastic use of external instruments (PDC has been flawless thus far)
Clean, very usable mixer
Reliable (crash wise, if crashes, saves a back up file)

-'s
Can't work as fast as I could have in FL, but maybe that will come with time
Miss the Slicer from FL (anyone know of any vsts which might take care of this issue? would be greatly appreciated)
Sample Previews aren't always instant like they were in FL, but really a minor complaint.

i have only ever learned reasom, i have been making beats for about 2-maybe almost3 years now.

the things i love about reason is that it is "classic" just like laoding patches with your guitar and amp and bass when you did rock music, the "device rack is (or at least can be very easy to understand).

the only thing that really gets me about using reason is that it is doesn't have a freq anylizer , or even a proper db level reader. it is almost impossible to get some one to learn anything. But honestly even the maximizer is bunk for reading db leves

All in all i always learn about more thing that i can do in reason, so there is always a good comunity. My main insipration though for reason is Daneil Kandi

are you kidding me !?!. first you very much. I gotta say i'm a bit baffled on how you were able to acheive this , using only reason.

like seriously though how did you do it. (i want have my comp with me for a couple days, so i can't even look at the rns file

just how correct it is i have no idea but its nice anyway.

Lets face it though, its far from perfect. Yes it can give you a general idea of the frequencies in use but thats about as far as you can go with it.

You cant do a peak hold, you cant zoom in to see a specific set of frequencies, you cant view the output as a waveform, you cant do an a/b comparison...

Reason really could do with a few additional tools in this area, and it's annoying because it's a closed system, you just have to live with it, unless ofcourse you rewire into a host and then use vst's to analyze the output from reason.

Well, ive recently been using the demo version of FL Studio 8, so these are my limited observations so far?:

Pros
- Nice Piano Roll
- Some nice VST's
- Quickly get ideas down

Cons
- Still looks a bit gimmicky
- Find myself always right click on something in the playlist to get a menu, but it deletes it! lol, it's force of habit and hopefully something I will adapt to over time
- Find quite often that when I go to draw a note in the piano roll, it goes one to far so I have to drag ir back over! (Seems if mouse is over halfway of the note you want - it puts it in the next note)
- Not having used previous versions of FL, there seems to be quite a bit of baggage left over from old versions. You have things like EQ, EQ2, SuperEQ etc... (thats just an example)
