Who do you think you are to ask me who I think I am??
Oh yeah and that YouTube video is pretty funny. Not sure who it was in the video, but I heard it's the guy that goes around on TA forums telling other people that have music released that their music sucks when he has nothing solid made, and idolizes himself by posting up videos of the ty dj mixes he does. Not to mention the cheesy tracks he picks.
I'm not talking about anyone specific though. |

| There's nothing even really that bad about this track. It's pretty chill and calming to listen to with a decent mixdown. |

atxbigballer1's a bit of a wank-off when it comes to constructive critiques, BUT, you do present yourself as though you were the hailed savior of progressive trance.
That being said, your track is interesting, albeit, I am having a difficult time judging your mix. Sure, many professionals have spots on mySpace, but I would never post something from it's player up for review anywhere. Myspace re-compresses your track in such a way that it pinches the middle frequencies, and inflates the lows and highs. You are better off grabbing the the track player from Reverb Nation.
However, you have some interesting sounds going on here. Sure, there are some progressive trance tracks that are slow-moving, repetitive, and atmospheric, but this prog-trance track uses up a lot of cliche's and doesn't end up sounding all that great. It's good... for an amateur, I'd give him a thumbs up... but for the self-proclaimed master of progressive sound, this is somewhat trite. You've got the routine side-chained pads that really swell at the end. You've got some video-game leads and analog leads chipping away at the mood. In light of the myspace re-compression, the bass is also nothing groundbreaking, and there are some eighth-note progressive basslines that would suit it better for a deeper sound.
I'm not a trance-god myself, but I have been making music is several different genres (EDM and otherwise) off and on between college breaks. Progressive trance does hold an interesting place in my heart |

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Your serious response is noted and I appreciate you taking the time to tell me what u think.
I didn't however, say anything condescending about myself. All I did was post up a link to my MySpace, don't forget, my MySpace is not just for you guys, it's for the general public. It's not about thinking how good I am, I am simply not going to put up a 320kbps version of my track for download when it's already near it's final form for release and I am sure I am not alone on this one. I am not a 'self proclaimed god of progressive.' I never said that. And whatever you read in my biography, I did not write that, a writer did, believe me, I tried, and I didn't even come close to being able to put that amount of spin. I'm glad someone offered to write my biography, it's well written, my industry friends have asked me to introduce them to the writer, and I don't care if some of you are too stuck up to see it for what it is, a marketing tool. It has absolutely nothing to do with arrogance. Please do a search for any other posts I've left on other people's threads to see if you find even the slightest hint of arrogance.
Whether one likes the track or not... Each to his own. I like it, a lot of people like it, some labels like it, I've gotten offers for it, the thing is, you don't have to like it. That's fine. I don't live for atxbigballer's or anyone's approval. People can talk however much they want, but people have been buying my tracks on Beatport and I could care less about winning everyone's approval because simply put, it's never going to happen. I don't even like full out Trance all that much except a very select few tracks, so why would I be bothered to win the approval of all the trance heads at TA? I'm not the slightest bothered by it, that's why I haven't taken down the post after some dumb ass wrote some meaningless crap on my thread.
For the minority who like to make a point about every fricking thing a person says... I don't play trance, I don't listen to trance, "So why the are you here" some would say... Well first of all, it's none of their business why I'm here, second of all, TA forum is a huge forum, and exposure is exposure, and I don't HATE trance, I just like a very small number of trancey tracks. There are some people here that like that track. Some don't though, that's OK, but don't assume no one else likes my track as if their opinion is the be all, end all of opinions. There's a big world out there and we are not the only one in it. Open your eyes. There are a lot of people who HATE trance, and if they were anything like (some of) the ass holes that frequent this forum, they'd go on every thread in the TA production forum and say they hate every single track. Does that make the tracks on TA really suck? No, it's just their preference.
I do not go on other people's post telling them that they suck or that they're amateur. I am not self righteous. You can do a search for anything I've said on other people's threads to see for yourself.
Music is art. An expression of whatever you want to express. This is what I want to see in this track. I have no technical or skill limitations that limted what I could express, everything I wanted in the track is in it, I never reached a block because I couldn't get the sound I want. From the start to end of this track, I made it purposefully, I knew what mood, sound, texture, composition, I wanted and I went ahead and did it. It is like a complete painting, that I am no longer going to add or take away from. I may not be the seasoned pro, but that does not make me an amateur. I knew what I want and I achieved it, I'm happy with it and this is how I am going to release it. I sidechained the pads because it creates the texture I'm looking for, not so I can be ground breaking. Not everything needs to be groundbreaking if it is a true expression of what you are looking for. If ground breaking was the purpose of every single track everyone writes, then every trance track must sound the same, because I can't remember the last time I heard a ground breaking trance track.
If arrogance is a problem, then I'm not the one you should be pointing fingers at, it's the people who make pointless and unconstructive comments, and those that berate others that should be your focus. You know why I don't talk about other people's production? Because everyone gets better, you can talk all the you want about someone, but tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, they will get better, and you have just succesfully burned a bridge. This is something that baffles me, how many TA forum frequenters are burning bridges without even knowing. Hey if you like to be a bridge burner, be my guest. Do what you want.
Some of you might appreciate my genuine, heart felt response. But sadly, some of you, will not, and will continue to rip this response apart and try and slander me. It's ok, I'm used to the way the TA forum is run by now as it's clear as day who the REAL arrogant ass holes are. |
