As a fan of the series back from the beginning, 4 was definitely worth buying a ps3 for. If you've missed any of the previous games, the game definitely looses some of its impact. i do wish there was more actual gameplay, but I definitely don't regret buying it or the system to play it.

I don't know which act it was (maybe 3? the first with Big Mama in Eastern Europe), but it just seemed like the entire act was one big FMV with a boss fight plunked into the middle of it.

However, going back to Shadow Moses was about as as it gets.

04. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night [PS1/360]
05. Grand Theft Auto 3 [PS2]
06. World of Warcraft [PC]
07. Bioshock [360/PC/PS3]
08. Tecmo Super Bowl [NES]
09. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic [XBOX/PC]
10. Super Mario Galaxies/64 [Wii/N64]

I'm liking this list. Major props for the inclusion of Tecmo Super Bowl. Though for the NES, I think it was just called Tecmo Bowl. (the super added to join the league of SNES games with 'Super' in the title)

I've literally never played Super Metroid. I've seen it played many times, but I don't think I've ever held a controller with that game on the TV. But everybody loves it. Not sure why I've held out on checking it out.

GTA3 was not just a great game, but a cultural phenomenon. I think it deserves a spot in every top 10 list. I hate to base award rankings on popularity, but GTA goes beyond that. This isn't Halo, or Call of Duty, or Madden, this is a game that created a genre all by itself.

For mine...(this is off the top of my head as well)

1. Final Fantasy VI(JP)/III(US) - SNES
2. Doom 2 - PC
3. Warcraft 2 - PC
4. Rez - Dreamcast/PS2
5. Duke Nukem 3D - PC/Xbox Live Arcade
6. Philosoma - PSone
7. Dragon Force - Saturn
8. Grand Theft Auto 3 - PS2
9. One - PSone
10. Super Mario Kart - SNES

As a huge fan of the MGS series, I've played every game religiously, even the Snake games from before the PS1 days. I've unlocked absolutely everything there is to be unlocked, in every MGS game of the last 15 years. I did buy the PS3 almost exclusively for this game, and I can wholeheartedly disagree with you that it was worth it. It was not. IMO, spending that amount of money for literally just over 7hrs of gameplay, plus an ass-tiring tirade of rambling movies and cutscenes just does not cut it. Those of us don't get Kojima? What is there to get? The melodrama is just carried too far in this game. There really are some outstanding political comments and theories, and the series does wrap up in a story that does not disappoint...and that could have been accomplished in half of the cutscenes, or better yet, keep all of the cutscenes, but include more gameplay.

Some parts of the game were just plain ridiculous. The final fight between Snake and Ocelot? Can anyone say 'anticlimactic' at BEST! Further, the dynamic of the gameplay did change, for the better, IMO. Far more realistic as far as sneaking around, so why not play on those strengths. Not a ing tirade of sitting down to watch a cutscene of 45min, followed by a short gameplay stint of 15min, followed by another sitting of a cutscene lasting 1hr. The game was a huge disappointment to this most fanatical (or at least I thought) fans. If this is Kojimas' last, good riddance. This game pales far in comparison to the absolute genius that was MGS1.

If you ask me, no game is worth buying an entire console just to play. Maybe I'm not as dedicated of a gamer, but I don't how any video game could be worth about $550 to play. (gotta include tax)

Makes sense, but many will disagree with you. When it first came out, the bundle back with the system was sold out for weeks.

As for the cutscenes and lack of gameplay time, even MGS1 had a crapload of cutscenes. This, along with relatively easy boss battles, should be little surprise to anyone who's played the previous games.
