Did he explicitly state this? If so thats pretty bold of him! Although I can see where he is coming from. I think it takes a lot more talent to produce than to mix some songs together. Anyone can become a half decent DJ with a bit of practice. At the end of the day, all DJs really do is play other people's music. |

He said that in an interview and then later claimed he was only joking...
And while it may not take much to "mix a couple of records" it takes A LOT of skill and talent to do a good job of it and put on a proper show...

I couldn't mix to save my life and this comment still bothers me... |

if it wasn't for DJs then all the skill in the world as a producer would mean pretty much nothing. |

You are totally correct.
I am not trying to say DJs are useless here or anything.... I am just recognizing the fact that producing takes a lot of talent while mixing is not near as difficult.
Anyone with turntables (slash CDJs), including myself, will tell you that mixing isn't rocket science. Throwing together a decent mix isn't near as difficult as producing a quality song. I wouldnt have a ing clue where to start in terms of producing. |
