Did he explicitly state this? If so thats pretty bold of him! Although I can see where he is coming from. I think it takes a lot more talent to produce than to mix some songs together. Anyone can become a half decent DJ with a bit of practice. At the end of the day, all DJs really do is play other people's music.

He said that in an interview and then later claimed he was only joking...

And while it may not take much to "mix a couple of records" it takes A LOT of skill and talent to do a good job of it and put on a proper show...

I couldn't mix to save my life and this comment still bothers me...

if it wasn't for DJs then all the skill in the world as a producer would mean pretty much nothing.

You are totally correct.

I am not trying to say DJs are useless here or anything.... I am just recognizing the fact that producing takes a lot of talent while mixing is not near as difficult.

Anyone with turntables (slash CDJs), including myself, will tell you that mixing isn't rocket science. Throwing together a decent mix isn't near as difficult as producing a quality song. I wouldnt have a ing clue where to start in terms of producing.
