does that make me less of a man?
I couldn't get the ratchet or the wrench to unlock the stupid bolt to the alternator. I thought I was going to break the rear struts with all the yanking I was doing.
I feel really bad and I don't think I'm going to be able to pimp out tonight. Shame shame shame on a nigga. |

I've never heard it called that, but yes a breaker bar will do the trick. I changed out the timing belt on my Honda this Fall. The job was a bitch but I saved myself $700+ If you don't have the right tools for the job and don't know what you're doing you're better off not DIY. |

Two totally different things.
A cheater bar is a metal pipe that you put on the end of a ratchet to give you more leverage and force. |

| no need to unbolt the alternator. just find the tensioner in order to loosen the tension on the belt. then just pull it over. done in 10 minutes max. |

This is only true on GM cars that I am aware of. The rest of the domestics, Japanese and German do NOT have a tensioner pulley. ;) |

holy u guys know your cars. I've been reading up more on the forums I frequent and there are tons of detailed DIYs out there on oil changes (sadly, which I don't do myself), spark plug replacements, valve adjustments, etc. I only recently changed the tires on the car myself for the first time. I had to make sure each nut was torqued properly and everything. LOL felt like such a mechanic even though it was so trivial.
Would love to be able to do more engine work by myself. |
