BitTorrent killed Dancemusic

all those boys who leech their favorite DAW, plugs and Vengeance sample packs of the piratebay and start micro DJíng..... THAT killed dance music. no longer nice chord progressions, no longer non sylenth / NEXUS / Vanguard saw based patches.....

It's hard to find anything beyond the FLStudio Vengeance VSTi based ITB preset pushing, loop mangling sidechained cliché sound nowadays.......

In that respect you could even say that mr. M. Schleis killed dancemusic my making it to easy for everybody to puzzle ty tracks out of quality patches / samples together

All you hear nowadays is Vengeance touched (either sample kits, or patchbanks or factory kits (Tone2 RefX etc)..... it's impossible to avoid them.... and A&R still demands their sound, because those 16 year old electronic label "A&R" managers don't know any different..... anything else sounds "dated"

I think however that Vengeance has put the biggest mark on Dancemusic in the last 5 years, their stuff is everywhere, their sound is in high demand and widely used, i cannot name any other person/company who influenced the industry this much

I don't really agree.
I've never seen someone 'dabble' in production and make anything I'd care to play out in a club, nor that would get many peoples' attention, generally.
The volume of people dabbling makes for a lot of chaff, but that chaff doesn't even see release on any label you care about. It doesn't even waste my time. If there's a song I don't like while music shopping, 90% of the time it's because I just don't like the style.

If they've leeched their software, and they're not dabbling, they're committing, well then they're not making music. It still might not be my style, but at least they're not 'hacks'....
Hm, bad pun.

True, but look at "commercial" dancemusic at the moment. there are very few who can pull together goosebump type uplifters like Paul Miller and stuff. There are loads who squeeze out, that crappy laid back "i can't even play a decent progression" 132 BPM fruity / reason template . " with leads that go nowhere and are just fillers. But since they used the right "building blocks" the sound is right and it gets pushed on DL stores.

It seems that these days if the sound is right, the arrangement no longer matters..... and "the sound" nowadays is no longer producing, but just grabbing the right template and sample kit. and people appearently love it....

Theres still an awful lot of good dance music out there, its certainly not dead.

Trance is certainly in a bad way for various reasons, but deep house is going very well, as is techno (although this won't last). The nature of music is that something is underground, slowly emerges into pop music and the dies away. By the time its emerging into pop music the scene is dead and bereft of creativity, but it can take 3-5 years for that to happen. Trance died off in 2004-5.

Again true, but i find the more interesting artists classify themselves as "Electronica" rather than Trance or Tech house or any other fashion stream. And yes there is still quality stuff being made, I am often impressed with the tracks posted here. It's just that i now get bored with "that" sound (the typical clinical Fruity ITB Vengeange, Izotope or T-Racks home mastered sound) It totally lacks the liquid organic/warm sound of outboard OR well mastered productions.... the random arifacts of a 909, the fluctuating oscs and creamy filters of a MOOG. There are well produced exceptions. but on lots of tracks.........

This forum cracks me up with the holier than thou snotty attitudes, so many know it alls, so little time.

Bitching about genres, sub genres, who uses samples and who doesn't, what classifies as a good song and what doesn't.

I will never EVER post a sample of my work here, no way in hell...too many people act like they are the know all, end all of music writing here, as if there was a specific way to do everything musically related in the first place.

I've been a member here for a number of years and I can honestly say I've never seen a bigger bunch of self infatuated individuals than I have here.

This place amazes me, it truly amazes me.

That's what annoys me.

QFT.

Don't have to look far (on this page) to find some good examples.

opinions are like s, above were just mine (as the topic title asked)

pushing someone in the "know it all" corner is easy.
don't confuse my (lack of) skills with what i like, or what i don't like. Your taste might be totally different. Hence there is so much music out there.

my perspective is as much from a "listener" as a "producer" point of view. If we can't discuss taste and prefence anymore then what's the use of a forum. Even if you've never picked up a brush yourself, you can still appreciate a van Gogh....... the same with music......

yep, here I am, I read this site periodically to pick up tips and tricks, maybe someone has some helpful insight. But I have always been blown away with the attitude here. I just felt compelled to say something today.

Deal with it.
