What annoys me is when people say "dance music is dead".:o
I believe it is far from dead, where I am from, people just don't hear it. Where I live there has never been a dance or trance radio station, only ty ass rock and hip hop, that when I turn it on, I wanna gag. I wish around here, "dance, electronica, trance, whatever" was being pushed harder into peoples ears, it might become more mainstream and end up dead, who knows, but, thing is, whenever I show any friend some of the music I listen to, they love it, and wanna know where I get it from but yet, nobody, as in dj's plays it around here. ----i'm in the States (Pennsylvania). The only place around here to go and hear my kind of music, is the big cities, like Philly and New York, and DC, other than that, most normal people around me never heard it and those people who have, usually love it. |
I know exactly how you feel, one would think just because i live in the most cosmopolitan and one of the most open minded cities that trance here would actually be all around, though i only hear it at 2am in the morning on some pirate radio station. And then again its not even trance its just run of the mill minimal and electro.
I personally feel dance music died when cdjs became popular. Just my honest opinion.
Check out this video and you will get what i mean. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1...e-mayday_events |

What annoys me: People screwing up my slightly dry, very light hearted thread with posts like "dance music is dead", or "I hate this forum". Incidentally miakoda, please provide examples of what you were talking about??? Because I can't see any of the sort of arrogance you were referring to.
Seriously guys:rolleyes:
PS
Sucks for you guys that live in redneck towns in the US, I really feel for ya:( Dance music is a city thing though, its not like blues or country music which comes from rural areas, so I don't know if theres a solution for it... |

| Well the thing is, I do live in a city but, the only problem is it is infested with hip hop. I have not much against hip hop, I like some of it but, the fact is, trance is just not played. I show people and they love it but, nowhere around is playing it or if they are, people are not hearing about it. Its, like it is underground in my area, when in fact I have loved trance music for a long time and know that worldwide it is not underground, its just no one around here knows it. America these days don't hear about things like this from the outside world except what the news shows, and thats for sure not trance music. Its the failed policies of Bush. <----but, thats a whole new topic. I hope that things will change and people around here will be more open to the outside world, cause I for one love it. Thats why I'm addicted to the net, and this forum, because I do see the outside world but, everyone else that I know, is in their hunky dory American life. I wish to go to Amsterdam or Rotterdam and go to some real events but, I can't leave my family behind.... So I sit here trying to make trance music that hopefully other like minded people will like.:D |

I sure as hell dont live in a redneck area, i can tell you that much. The thing is that America isnt very receptive to EDM, unlike european countries and australia. Hence even though i live in like the biggest city in the states it doesnt mean anything if the majority of the people dont even know what edm is or even care. When everything is infested by britney spears and kanye west there is any room for a sean tyas or glen morisson |

If you can't find good music living in NYC then I just don't know what to tell you. You'll never find it. |

Agreed. But, I'm confident that Obama's new administration and policies will open America's borders to EDM. I've been lobbying hard for that Secretary of Trance nomination, but I hear that Barack is leaning toward Sara Palin because of her extensive foreign policy experience (i.e., she can hear Russian and Canadian trance from Alaska). |

Needing to real bad just when you're trying to record that killer lead. |

Musical inspiration and the need to defecate are truly intertwined.
Erm, as for those complaining about their cities not having EDM? You can find it, you're just not looking. If there isn't anything then put something on yourself!
Europe doesn't have it much better. In fact, having moved to the states a year ago, I've have to say the EDM scene is sooooo much better here than in London. It is literally dead in London apart from the two super clubs (fabric and MOS) and yes I know it's LA but damn, It's really like the club scene was in the mid 90's in London. Great DJ bookings, nice clubs, great crowds, loads of small parties and after hours events, not to mention festivals and one offs.
Don't rely on mainstream radio to play EDM - GET SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO - two decent EDM stations (at Least) playing EDM 24 hours a day!
I too hate people labeling EDM or house as "techno".
When I DJ and people say "do you have like some hip-hop/R&B rather than this Techno", I go "yeah, I've got some hip hop, like radiohead or some R&B, like metallica?"
If EDM and clubs is so important to you, then move to somewhere that has loads of it, like California. |
