Im currently writing a uplifting trance track , and heres the problem.
I wanna know how to make this sound,
(This is really urgent , because i dont think i can really
progress much without this sound lol...)

(It starts at 3:28 , sounds like a detuned waveform)

So my question is , what waveform is that? Can that be done by refx vanguard , gladiator or sytrus?

And also , theres this "Electric guitar" sound from carl b's just a thought

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eIWXHObQlE&fmt=18
(Starts at 2:45)

and my question is , is this really an electric guitair? Can it be created by Slayer 2?

Can anyone answer my questions?

PS:Yes i know im a idiot in audio synthesis..

Hm, pretty old school sound. Those old ones usually are pretty simple, in terms of oscillator composition. I haven't tried making this one... I'll give it a shot...

I opened up a synth, and it's really dominated by the sound of one single saw. Just one unfiltered, unmodulated, un-anythinged saw sounded very similar to it, but not quite 'honkey' enough. Fiddling with the oscillators further didn't help. I tried changing my filter to band-pass/notch, fiddled with that. That did a bit to bring out the right frequency range a tad.

I think I can hear an LFO on the pitch and/or volume. Maybe a pitch envelope affected @ note-on? Possibly starting at a low pitch and quickly raising. You can also hear in the song where he filters it down, so maybe he's got a second filter on the synth as a mild lowpass. But it's usually open.

Alright times up on this trial.

Good luck.

Sounds abit close... but Fast Distance"s is still more sawy... i wonder how he does it....
MOK
Yeah, thats basically the kind of results I was running into. I wonder what it is we're missing here...
It's a real classic sound so I'll bet its something stupid simple.

Sounds like you have too many voices (too much unison).
noicuc
Yeah i bet its something simple but i still cant figure out what it is....

and opps i didn't know i had unison on...

Try emailing Fast Distance ;)

You know what could help you? A nice guitar amp emulator. Namely, Amplitude 2. You can get some damn nice sounds from it when you attach it to a synth.

Does emailing Fast Distance really works? I mean will they even bother to reply to a nobody like me lol?

And yeah i might check Amplitude 2 later , Is it freeware or do you have to pay for it?

You'll never find out unless you try...

i was trying to recreate a big saw sound in rob papens predator, and in the fx section i used 2 ensembles which seemed to make is more aggressive. im too lazy to listen to the samples at the mo tho so not even sure if this is what ur lookin for lol

spolitta
That sound can't be more simpler to make. You only need one square oscillator to make it and to be honest not very much else. Just put a slight lowpass with some resonance. Very little attack, full sustain and adjust the release until it sound right with your melody, usually in the middle. Of course the same setting will sound a bit better coming out of Virus than your average soft synth but that shouldn't matter to you, it's the EQ that should shape the sound and make it like the one in the track. You don't need any LFO at all.
MOK
Ergh, I gave it another try using a square as you suggested spolitta, but it didn't sound nearer at all. I tried cutting the top a little to sand off the squarey-ness of it, tried 12 db/octave, 24, 36, waved that resonance around. Tried band-passing + unfiltered bring out the range. Tried EQing, Tried different square-forms. Revisited octaving, tuning, phasing, but as suspected those are all wrong.
I tried layering one saw over that square, which made it sound a bit closer, but I'm feeling that may be the wrong direction.

If you haven't tried it out yet, try it. I'm really intrigued with this odd little puzzle.
I'll bet I'm gonna get embarrassed once someone nails it.
