The url above is so right. I mostly hate mainstream trance by the way. So my posts have a contradiction? Trance can't be called art because.. because.. and pieces I listed are in AOTS (CRYYY). I hate your attitudes. They are naive, sarcastic, flippant, "knowing" and you hop in a bandwagon of geniusness. I don't think that dance music, techno and all of its sub-genres, breakbeat and drum&bass for instance are candidates for art at all as electronic music but trance, ambient and psychedelic are. It's my opinion so learn to respect that. It shouldn't bring in nothing negative if I say that trance is valid as art. So you like trance and can't find anything artistic about it? |

No one said trance isn't artistic. Music is art, there is great art and not-so-great art, that is true about trance as it is true about any other music. "Arty" should refer to something of exceptional artistic worth, something with remarkable artistic qualities or at least some artistic pretension. When you come in here and cite 'Kyau vs Albert' and 'Stoneface & Terminal' as examples of that you can't expect anyone to take you seriously. |

Exactly, and I'm sure there were stages in painting where everything became a little bit cheesy and obvious and the more subtle artists were all this isn't art.
It is art, maybe it isn't good but whatever. |

I think those 2 works are exceptionally good (their biggest achievements). But for instance Infected Mushroom's early production was exceptional (Classical Mushroom, B.P Empire) until they went commercial too. So what I'm looking for are exceptionally good singles (which can be referred as "artsy"). Big deal 8). But I'm going to check a lot of stuff in that uplifting trance- thread. |

I don't think opinions are automatically worthy of respect. Especially not ones as unreasonable and close-minded as this.
The problem is very simple. All music is art, but music exists on that spectrum between entertainment and art. Music is an entertaining art form. To ask for "artsy" trance implies trance towards the artistic end of the spectrum, defined by all the conventional markers of high art. It implies intellectual depth, sophistication and merit above other trance which is not worthy of the moniker "artsy". Either you have an idiosyncratic definition of art or nobody else can see why the tracks you have listed are any more artistic than than other trance, including the stuff you've decried. |

I still think your use of words like "artsy" is completely unwarranted. (You should also keep in mind that "artsy" with the 's' is often used as a pejorative. It's clearly not the case here, but it can be good to know.)
However, if i were to recommend one thing here i would recommend THIS. |
