i found this question in a forum i often visit and decided to post it up in here at ta. because it's something that we must take into account if we ever hope to progress in making edm.
so this is my list of efforts lol
1.trying to get the most out off my daw!(fl lol)
2.teaching myself new ways of making tracks. (kicking bad habits)
3.continue to make my own samples/patches
4.remind myself that i will have to stop and find things first.(build things up)
their that's mine to keep me busy now lets hear yours imo! |

| Layers and layers and layers... well, I'm trying to get better at them anyway heh |

1. Fewer elements in a production. (less is more!)
2. Only 1 shot percussion hits for every track (no loops)
3. Using compressor to ADSR shape sounds. (not only making them louder)
And i really gotta start learning to hear notes and intervals, i cant hear if something is in the same note even if i played the right one. |

My main use of a compressor these days, fine tuning transients. ;) |

Trying to fill my tracks, but make them actually sound like they are a "less is more" situation.
The more I look for it in tracks, the more I'm finding "ghost sounds" or the slightest bit of sound thrown into a melody that is not part of the original sound, but still sounds like one sound. (sorry I know I'm confusing people)
And MOST of all, believing in my tracks, and just doing what ever the hell I want, not giving a about what genre I'm aiming for, mixing guitars with acid synths or ANYTHING I WANT.
That is my new style for music. |

genres suck. I dont know what acid etc. is and i think i dont wanna know.
err...what are ^DAWs^??
1.Make tracks.Just anything that is in my mind...and then trying to make the sounds instead of tweak presets...thinking of getting another synth besides my z3ta+ xD
lesser is more indeed....but for this to work the sounds must be well evolved |

I've been doing "less is more" for far too long, so now I'm trying the "more is more fun" approach - I just bought four new hardware synths: Moog Voyager RME, DSI Poly Evolver, Waldorf MicroQ, and DSI Mopho. :D
Don't worry, it's just a temporary thing. I got them all at very good prices, so I'm going to compare them to my other synths over the next month or so, work some of them into some songs, decide who stays, and sell the others at (hopefully) a net profit, or at least zero net cost to me. Eventually, I'll be back to the same number of hardware synths I have now. |
