| Driving through Laredo to go to Mexico is a brave move. It's quite possibly the heart of the drug cartel related violence along the border. Driving through Mexico may be an even worse idea. Cartels and corrupt cops alike rule the highways and streets of Mexico so be prepared to bribe some people for your life or freedom. You don't want to end up some ones girlfriend in Mexican jail. I'd say drive somewhere in the south, find a place to stash your car and fly to a Mexican touristy city where you'll be a bit safer. |

Ditto on all the comments about Mexico. Some intelligence reports say Mexico is more of a problem then Iraq even at this time.
Corrupt police officials, violence, kidnappings, rape, murder. The only advantage is that the peso is really getting beat up so vacationing in Mexico is cheap. But I would stick to highways and tourist local's for safety. Oh might I add that the peso is doing horribly because of not only gas prices bringing in less revenue for the Mexican government (resulting in less policing and funding for police), the cost to insure investments in Mexico has been rising dramatically which seems to financially indicate Mexico is on the decline.
Mexico isn't really that good of a place to go exploring right now. If you want to go exploring go see British Columbia or even the Adirondack's.
If you want to go see desert land, go to the 4 corners in USA and say you have been in 4 states at once.
Going to Mexico to wander around is top notch retarded right now.
Bribery is common, girl in one of my classes last semester was talking about how when she lived in California last year her friends and her went to Mexico for a day trip. They end up all getting taken in to custody for some reason they didn't even know because the police officials didn't speak english. But it only cost them $60 to get let go and no one got raped.
I could think of like 28 reasons not to go to Mexico. And I have to ask, are you even serious? This almost seems like a joke |

This looks like one of the worst routes ever devised. You're going to pass through Detroit, quite possibly the worst city in the U.S., Louisville which is worthless, Memphis which has money BBQ but more racial tension than any city I've ever been to, Little Rock which is the armpit of the universe, then strait to Mexico where you're probably going to get killed or at the very least, butt raped?
Sheesh. This is more like the depression '09 world tour. Try this route instead: If your plans are to go South to Mexico, start on the other side of Lake Michigan and go through Milwaukee... then Chicago... then uh, you're ed after that anywhere you go until you get to TX. Maybe get a plane ticket in Chicago to Dallas. Rent a car in Dallas, then go through Austin (don't miss that place) and San Antonio. By the time you get to San Antonio you'll get sick of all the mexicans and want to go back to Dallas anyway. |
