after putting some thought into this, and reflecting on my own personal conversations, it usually goes like this:
- if its in a friendly fashion, and i plan on talking to the person again, its usually, "later buddy"
- if its in a polite fashion and i don't plan on talking to the person again, its usually, "ok, bye"
- if its in a horny fashion and i plan on talking to the person later that day, its usually, "catch ya later"
- if its in an upset fashion, and i do or don't plan on talking to the person again, its usually, "yeah, bye"
also, i think more often than not, i wait for the other person to say their "goodbye" first. then i'll say it. |

For some reason, I hate to say "kisses", "hugs" or anything similar when I'm on the phone and/or writing a letter. Often, I wouldn't do any of those things if I were actually talking to the person, so I see no point in saying that when I'm not in front of them. So, whenever I have someone say "kisses" or "hugs" on the phone, I just say, "Yeah, you too", out of politeness.
Anyone else annoyed by these little conventions? |
Yeah, and I agree with you. This also applies to text messages as well and the use of the "lol" at every given opportunity. Lol. |

In Holland, we're used to make Belgian jokes. So, when you're about to hang up, you say to the other person: "What sound does a Belgian ambulance make?" and then you hang up.
It was fun when I was 6.
/so it was fun a year ago?
On a serious note, me and me friends have a lot of words which we use when ending a call. But nothing like hugs or kisses.
By the way, these days who actually still writes letters? In emails, I use Gr., which means Groeten (greetings, regards). |

I say, "okay, bye" on the telephone. Then, of course, the person keeps talking. Yak yak yak. I say, "Okay, okay, okay, BYE." And hang up.
That's the usual and that's how I do it even with hawt "significant" men.
In instant messages, I do "kissies" or xoxoxox if I'm feeling flirty or affectionate. Usually, just a quick farvel, ttyl, or an I have to go, bye.
In emails, I just stop typing and click submit.
In letters, it is different. I only write letters to older uncles and aunts and grandparents, so very loving closing.

| When I was a kid (bold and rude) and people talked too much (usually happens) I would say, "hey! If you hear the dial tone don't think we were disconnected!" And click it. |
